2 Beau Biden Cancer Moonshot SM Initiative In 2016, NCI convened Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP) to provide recommendations for achieving goal of the Beau Biden Cancer Moonshot SM Initiative. Goal: Make a decade s worth of progress in cancer research in five years. BRP charged with assessing state-of-thescience in specific areas and identifying research opportunities that could lead to significant advances in understanding cancer and how to intervene. 2

3 BRP Implementation Science Working Group Report Recommendation: Conduct implementation research to accelerate the adoption and deployment of sustainable, evidence-based cancer prevention and screening interventions at multiple levels and in different clinical and community settings. High priority areas included colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. 3

4 The ACCSIS Program will provide an evidence base for multilevel interventions that increase rates of CRC screening, follow-up, and referral-to-care, and best practices for how multilevel interventions can be scaled-up to reduce the burden of CRC on the United States population. 4

5 ACCSIS Program Components Characteristics of U24 Coordinating Center: Facilitate collaboration across Research Projects. Disseminate study findings and share intervention materials. Characteristics of UG3/UH3 Research Projects: Target population of individuals for whom CRC screening rates are below national standards. Address cancer health disparities. Cover sufficient geographic region to have impact. Test multi-level interventions to increase rates of CRC screening, follow-up, and retention-in-care. 5

9 RFA-CA (U01) Approaches to Identify and Care for Individuals with Inherited Cancer Syndromes Purpose: To increase case ascertainment and appropriate follow-up care, optimizing the delivery of evidence-based healthcare for individuals at high risk of cancer due to an inherited genetic susceptibility. 9

10 RFA-CA (U01) Communication and Decision Making for Individuals with Inherited Cancer Syndromes Purpose: To develop, test, and evaluate interventions and implementation approaches, or adapt existing approaches, to improve patient/provider/family risk communication and decision making for individuals and families with an inherited susceptibility to cancer. 10
