2 About Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy SABR is now accepted as the standard of care for patients with early peripheral lung cancer who are unsuitable for surgery. 1. There is now rapidly accumulating evidence supporting its role in the treatment of oligometastatic disease. 2. Patients can benefit from longer disease and symptom control and improved quality of life. 3. The SABR Practice offers: Fast access Patients start their treatment shortly after referral. Fast and accurate treatment Our state of the art equipment can deliver SABR treatments in a similar timeframe to other advanced radiotherapy treatments. Patients may need to attend between three and eight treatments which can be arranged to their convenience. 3 Referring your patient Referring patients to The SABR Practice is quick and straightforward. Your patient will be seen at the next available clinic in line with national eligibility guidelines, if your patient is considered eligible they will proceed to treatment as soon as possible. If you are unsure whether your patient is eligible for SABR then contact us for further information. It is usual for your patient to then be under the supervision of the SABR specialist for an eight week period - this includes pre and post treatment. Once treatment is complete, your patient will be referred back to you for ongoing management. Fees The SABR specialist will submit invoices to the insurer or patient (if self-funded) in relation to the planning and supervision of their SABR treatment. Once SABR treatment is complete, the patient s oncologist should continue to invoice for follow-up/continued care.

4 Regional access Oncologists from the South East region can access SABR for their private or self-paying patients via SABR specialists from across the region. Dr Veni Ezhil is the principal specialist at GenesisCare, Guildford. Current NHS post Consultant Clinical Oncologist, St. Luke s Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford Speciality Dr. Ezhil led the implementation of the SABR lung service at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in January 2012 and has treated over 150 patients to date. She is currently the SABR lead for the treatment of oligometastases at RSCH and delivers SABR across all cancer sites and will consider patients with three or fewer metastases in lung, liver, spine, bone, adrenal or lymph node from any solid tumour. Being able to offer SABR to private patients from the Guildford, Portsmouth and Southampton areas makes things much more convenient for those patients who would otherwise have to travel to central London for their treatment Dr Veni Ezhil MBBS MRCP FRCR

5 Case study Sixty-four year-old Glynis Ebelthite was diagnosed with an aggressive grade 3 breast cancer. It was her third breast cancer. Previous disease at 40 years old and again at 47 years old were treated with lumpectomy, chemotherapy and conventional radiotherapy. Under the care of Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Dr Anthony Neal, Mrs Ebelthite underwent six months of adjuvant chemotherapy using sequential anthracycline/taxane treatment. A PET scan six weeks after the completion of chemotherapy showed persistent localised disease in the left internal mammary lymph node region. Dr Neal referred the patient to Dr Veni Ezhil for consideration for SABR treatment. Three treatments of 12 Gy were delivered via SABR over a week which resulted in significant shrinkage of the secondary tumour, and the patient reported that she hadn t experienced any side effects. After follow up with Dr Ezhil, the patient continues under the care of Dr Neal following a radical, rather than palliative, treatment pathway.
