2 Sometimes we need to restructure our work to make it easier to remember. If we group information in a specific way (that is personal to us) then it means our brains can retrieve that information more easily at a later date. November 3,

22 Thomas Edison was born on February 11 th 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was the seventh and youngest child of Samuel Edison Jr. and Nancy Elliot Edison. His mother was a former school teacher and his father was a jack of all trades. He did everything from running a grocery store to selling real estate.
23 2. When Thomas was seven, the family moved to Port Huron, Michigan and the boy began school. The story goes that his teacher, the Reverend Engle whipped Thomas because he asked to many questions. After three months, the teacher told Nancy that her son was dull and couldn t learn! She immediately took Thomas out of school and taught him herself. 3. Nancy Encouraged her son to learn for himself about things that interested him. When Thomas was 9, she gave him an elementary science book which explained how to do chemistry experiments. The boy did every experiment in the book and spent all his spare money buying chemicals from local pharmacy. At the age of 10, he built a Science laboratory in the basement of the family s home. 4. Thomas had ear problems throughout his childhood and he began to lose much of his hearing when his ears were injured in a train accident. Although his deafness could have been cured, Thomas refused the operation saying that being deaf helped him concentrate. Deafness probably drove me to reading he said later in life. 5. When Thomas was 12, he took a job selling newspapers on the Grand Trunk Railway. He got permission to put his Science laboratory in the baggage car so he could do experiments during a five-hour stopover in Detroit. But the conductor threw Thomas and his chemicals off the train when one day the train lurched and the lab caught fire.
