8 Trivalent Influenza Vaccine[TIV] Seasonal Flu Vaccine Contains : A/California/7/2009[H1N1]-like virus A/Perth/16/2009[H3N2]-like virus B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus Supply to GP surgeries late March Qld Health request recording of all free TIV vaccines

9 New Indications for TIV Anyone with medical risk factors aged 6 months to 64 yrs (refer to Immunisation Handbook 2009) All pregnant women All ATSIC people aged 15 and above Existing indications ; All aged over 65 yrs ATSIC aged over 50 yrs

11 School Based Pandemic Flu Vaccination Program Qld Health targeting children and adolescents From 27/Feb until end of Term 1 GCCC running clinics from State High Schools on Sat or Sun morning All family members invited to be vaccinated Patients given form to give to GP Booster doses targeted to relevant schools -reminders sent to parents -GPs can provide booster

12 Treatment of Flu in Children with Tamiflu Available for patients with an acute febrile illness,are member of vulnerable group and have moderate to severe illness Suspension difficult to obtain Prescibe adult 75mg capsules[10] and calculate child daily dose Write on script This script to be filled from Antiviral Pandemic Supply Chemist will advise patients re opening capsule, mix powder with 5 mls water, and give appropriate volume

17 Pertussis on the Gold Coast Of the 18 cases: 13 hospitalised 5 aged under 2 months 6 overdue first vaccination when became ill 2 parents refused vaccination 5 had 1 dose DTPa

18 Pertussis Preventive Strategies Consider diagnosis in any ill patient with a cough, especially if gaging, vomiting, or whooping Vaccinate babies on time Vaccinate parents of newborn -free vaccine for parents of babies born after 1/5/2009 Vaccinate yr 10 students who missed SBVP -can catch up any time until end of following year Encourage vaccination dtpa to: -adults caring for and working with children: eg grandparents, teachers, childcare workers, staff in General Practices, women planning pregnancy

19 Eligibility for GPs to provide Missed School Based Vaccines Hepatitis B : -if commenced course while in yr 8 eligible for booster until end following year -if not commenced course then not eligible dtpa : -if miss year 10 may catch up until end following year
