4 Children s mobility Some practical issues GPs / paediatricians may face: Need for international vaccination card? Need for scientific guidance for HCW? Undocumented vaccination status (e.g. parents remember some vaccinations, may not remember how many doses already received, etc) The child is in the middle of a course of a vaccine that is part of the schedule of country of origin but not of country of destination continue the course or stop it? The child has not had a vaccine (not part of schedule of country of origin) that is part of the schedule of country of distination catch up? The (combination) vaccine with which the child was primed is not on the market of country of destination 4

18 Conclusions Standardised, multi-lingual, internationally agreed vaccination cards / passports have shown to: improve the vaccination documentation status improve communication between vaccine service providers across countries improve the vaccination status and compliance in countries where no national / regional card existed facilitate travelling Introduce an EU immunisation booklet / passport in analogy with EU pet passport? 18
19 Conclusions Not a burden on healthcare professionals if making use of peeloff stickers (example vet vaccines), which could also contain QR code (capacity of 4,296 alphanumeric characters!) for automated entry in an electronic immunisation registry. = Vaccine 'brand name A'. Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (acellular, component), hepatitis-b (rdna), poliomyelitis (inactivated) (IPV) and Haemophilus type b (Hib) conjugated vaccine (adsorbed). Lot number XXXX Epiry date XX/XX/XXXX Company name A personal vaccination card ( ~the immunisation registry held by the vaccinee ) complements, but does not replace an electronic immunisation registry held by public health authorities. 19
