Some highlights of the above meetings: During the meetings of ISO/TC 43/SC1, WG 25 Measurement of Sound Intensity and WG 28 Sound Power Levels of Noise Sources, it was decided to adopt the procedures given in the ISO Publication, ISBN : 1995, Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement for the development of uncertainty specifications given in standards developed by the above working groups. For the meetings of IEC/TC29, WC 4 Sound Level Meters it was decided to reorganize the proposed new sound level meter standard IEC into parts. Part 1 will contain the performance specifications, requirements for the Instruction Manual, and an informative annex for optional time-weighting I. Part 2 will describe pattern evaluation tests. Part 3 will describe periodic verification tests, and a Part 4 with the test report format for pattern evaluation test will be considered. It is expected that Part 1 will be published in the near future. For some of the participants at the above meeting, there were concerns that the comprehensive tests mandate by the IEC standard are too costly for most users of sound level meters. It is interesting to point out that IEC/TC29, WG 18 Amendments of Relevant IEC/TC 29 Standards with Respect to Developments on EMC has made good progress in drafting amendments to acoustical instrument standards for compliance with EMC electromagnetic compatibility requirement. During the meeting of OIML/TC 13 Measuring Instruments for Acoustics and Vibration, it was announced that the German Secretariat for the above committee would like to step down, and a search is in progress to find a country that is willing to assume the responsibility. It is anticipated that some of the above working groups will meet in conjunction with the International Congress and Exposition Noise Control Engineering Inte.noise 99 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 2 4 December First Overseas Meeting of Accredited Standards Committees, and ASA Committee on Standards The first overseas meetings of the Accredited Standards Committees for national standards development, the review of International Standards, and planning of future meetings were held during the 137th ASA Meeting and Forum Acusticum 99 integrated with the 25th Anniversary of DAGA meeting, at the Technical University Berlin, Berlin, Germany, March The meetings were a success. For the first time the meetings of all the S committees were held together in conjunction with the Standards Plenary Group. One obvious outcome was the time saving feature of the above meeting arrangements. There were discussions on the possibility of adopting the above meeting format for the future standards meetings. 12 J. Acoust. Soc. Am., Vol. 106, No. 1, July 1999 Acoustical Standards News 12
