In-ear monitors are classified based on the number of drivers inside. Both our Classic and Flex in-ear monitors are available with either 1, 2 or 3 balanced armature drivers. Armature drivers, originally found in hearing aids, house a magnetic armature that moves when an electric current runs through the coil, putting pressure on the diaphragm, thus creating sound. A single driver, as in Micro Monitor Classic 1 and Micro Monitor Flex 1, as the name implies, has one driver producing all the frequencies in the sound spectrum. The dual driver in the Micro Monitor Classic 2 and Micro Monitor Flex 2 uses 2 drivers. One is dedicated to low frequencies and the other to high frequencies. Fantastic! - Philip James, The Craze In general, the dual and triple drivers produce greater clarity and bass response due to the fact that the dedicated drivers can reproduce the frequencies more clearly. Some sound engineers opt for a single driver, since there aren't complications with crossover networks (trying to get all the drivers to work together to produce seamless sound). Think of it like a high-quality sound system. You can use one speaker for everything but get much better quality when you have a subwoofer, a mid-range speaker and a tweeter for highs.
