Danmark was first with public hearing rehabilitation service in hearing clinics in København, Odense and Århus with strong and visionary leaders Constructive, but challenging relationship between industry and hearing clinics led to better products Strong Danish acoustic environment Strong export efforts and acquisitions led to Denmark being the leading hearing aid nation Good co-operation between Danish competitors Research centers at DTU 5

In 2012 the infamous L59 law was passed Reducing the subsidy for hearing aids in private clinics by 50 % Prices for hearing aids purchased by public clinics was reduced almost 60% Annual savings of kr. 235 mill. Then the industry started the Visiongroup for Danish Hearing rehabilitation Participants from mutiple stakeholders

12 The Vision group agenda EDUCATION Improve Danish Audiology education. 3 year Bachelor degree UNIFORM SYSTEM Establish a new more uniform system with audiologists as the key players in the hearing rehabilitation RESEARCH Establish a research center focusing on clinical audiology: improved diagnostics, efficient fitting procedures & accurate outcome measures 1 2

13 BEAR Project Objective Overall, to ensure a better quality of service for the patient and a high return on the clinical resources spent in the field of hearing rehabilitation. This requires: Optimal treatment (e.g., device selection and fitting strategy) for a particular individual based on that person s particular auditory profile, set of expectations, and lifestyle. The development and assessment of new clinical methods for diagnosis and hearing aid fitting to form a better basis for choosing the best rehabilitation strategy New outcome measures and post-fitting procedures to help evaluate given fitting strategies, performance and user satisfaction. In particular, to develop a field paradigm for investigating the performance in the user s daily surroundings. Thus, the advantages and disadvantages of the technology can be assessed in different real situations and environments. A number of different clinical populations will be selected for further testing and follow-up. The results will help us understand which of the methods that provides added value, and which should be standardized for clinical practice.
