Widex ISP technology continuously controls and coordinates all functions in the hearing aid automatically in response to changes in the user s listening environment. Dual ISP is a further development which includes a layer for added awareness in challenging listening situations. 8 Audibility Extender Access to high frequency details The details in speech and environmental sounds are important factors for exceptional sound and comfortable listening. But high frequency details can be lost in amplified sound. (Hz) For the first time ever, Widex introduces the Audibility Extender into the midrange segment. In contrast to traditional frequency transposition schemes, the Audibility Extender uses true linear transposition to move important sounds from the inaudible higher frequency regions into the audible lower frequency regions while preserving the frequency ratio and the harmonic content of the sound signal and with virtually no artefacts. The Audibility Extender algorithm is individually fitted to the user s audiometric configuration through an automatic fitting routine in Compass. (db HL) The Audibility Extender makes it possible to extend the hearing range into the high frequencies for those users who were unable to hear these sounds before. With the Audibility Extender, the user s hearing range is extended to include high-pitched sounds which retain their high-pitched quality even though they are transposed into a lower frequency region. Studies indicate that the broader audibility obtained with this technique can facilitate the perception of highpitched speech sounds. 8

9 TruSound compression system Appropriate gain and quality sound in every situation To ease a full day of challenging listening, the hearing aid must deliver a stable and audible speech signal while also providing a comfortable, accurate response to rapid changes in the input level. The foundation of the Widex amplification rationale is that soft sounds must be audible but remain soft in character, normal speech must be audible and intelligible and loud sounds must be perceived as loud without being uncomfortably loud. The mind330 sound is defined within the TruSound compression system the result of over a half century of research, development and user s experiences. The TruSound system has been designed with increased focus on loud input levels and consists of three parts. The TruSound compressors and the new TruSound AOC (Automatic Output Control) have refined the handling of loud input levels for improved loud sound quality and comfort. The TruSound stabilisers secure swift changes in compression attack and release times in changing listening environments while allowing predominantly long release times in stable listening situations. With these unique TruSound features, Widex provides your clients with audibility, intelligibility and comfort in communication with others. 10 ClearBand For exceptional sound quality In the music world, two-way speakers are the preferred solution for providing the best sound over the entire frequency range. By using two separate membranes, one can be dedicated to the low frequencies and one to the high frequencies. But two membranes take up more space than one, making it impractical for hearing aid design until now. With ClearBand, mind330 is the only hearing aid in the mid-range segment to have a bandwidth of over 10kHz, ensuring exceptional, transparent sound quality. Available in the mind330 m models, the ClearBand hi-fi two-way receiver incorporates two separate membranes in one small unit. 14 Master program Fully adaptive, automatic, comfortable Hearing aid users repeatedly tell us that ease and comfort are essential criteria for satisfaction. The mind330 master program adapts smoothly and automatically to the changing environments the users find themselves in - for carefree listening comfort. The amplification rationale in mind330 is designed to ensure audibility of soft sounds, intelligibility of speech and comfort with loud sounds. The rationale is based on enhanced dynamic range compression and mind330 comprises 10 independent compression channels. All the adaptive signal processing features in mind330 aim to tailor the sound instantly in any listening situation. The goal of this combination of non linear amplification and adaptive signal processing is ease and comfort in most listening environments. The mind330 master program was designed with focus on the typical user s desire to pass easily and comfortably through their days, enjoying soft environmental sounds, hearing speech in varied surroundings and feeling comfortable in loud noisy places. 15 Zen Peace of mind The positive emotional and psychological effects of music are well documented. Inspired by this, Widex has developed the revolutionary Zen, the first ever in hearing aids to provide users with a specifically designed relaxation and tone program. Zen has an in-built generator that plays random, non-repeated and infinite sounds - so there are no sudden changes in tonality or tempo and the sounds are not too distracting. Users can choose between a range of different musical tones (called Zen Styles) in major and minor keys, and volume, tempo and pitch can be adjusted. To ensure that the tones are always audible, the Zen program takes both the user s individual hearing loss and background noise into consideration. 16 SmartSpeak Verbal messaging Widex helps to ease and simplify hearing aid operation with the innovative Smart- Speak. SmartSpeak is a signalling mechanism that uses actual recorded speech to inform users of program mode, hearing aid and remote control activation and low battery power. The hearing aid takes background noise into account to deliver the message at the appropriate level. This gives the user added control of the different options the hearing aid offers. As an industry first, the mind series of hearing aids allows various parameters to be selected according to individual preferences in Compass, including the choice of male or female voice and a choice of 22 different languages. Another option is SmartTone, where beep-tones indicate use of chosen hearing aid functions rather than the verbal message. This option would typically be selected for volume adjustment indication. 16

17 Precision fitting a Widex trademark The successful fitting of a hearing aid is crucial for both professional and user alike. Widex has long had a reputation for excellence in fitting and fitting procedures, in particular with Sensogram. The mind TM series takes precision in fitting a step further, offering in-situ RECD, a new and improved version of our logging function, Sound Diary II and an in-built performance monitor, ServiceTracker. QuickFit QuickFit is a fitting option that can be selected in Compass fitting software. Based on estimated fitting parameters, QuickFit is a fast way to obtain a basic fitting and make the most common fine tuning changes. This option is particularly useful when you wish to demonstrate the hearing aid sound for your client. At any time during the QuickFit procedure, you can easily switch over to the more detailed, standard fitting. 17

RC4 remote control LED visual indicator SCOLA FM system NanoCare The RC4 remote control enables the user to switch off the sound without turning the hearing aid off. Sound can be simply muted by holding down the volume button. RC4 also allows users to change listening programs, adjust volume and activate logging. Easy access to programs, volume control etc. The LED visual indicator, available in m3-19, displays programs in use as well as RC signal input.
