Being lost in translation has happened to everyone, even us, and that s exactly how the idea was born. Pilot includes a second earpiece for audio and a mobile app, which toggles between languages. 7 Pilot Translating Earpiece SHIPPING FALL/WINTER 2017 The Pilot Translating Earpiece is designed to allow two people speaking different languages to communicate with each other freely. How The Pilot Translating Earpiece uses specially designed noise-canceling microphones to filter out ambient noise from the speech of someone talking. The speech is then passed through the Pilot app, where layers of speech translation technologies occur. Waverly Labs' translation engine is a hybrid system which relies on the latest statistical-based speech translation technologies from multiple sources. The translation process includes speech recognition, machine translation and machine learning, then speech synthesis. At the end of the funnel, the translated language is sent to the other user wearing the second earpiece. It all occurs simultaneously without interruption, as each person speaks to one another. 8

9 F.A.Q When will Pilot be available? The Pilot is scheduled to ship for Fall/Winter What s included? Pilot includes a second earpiece (such as for wireless music streaming), a battery charger (for additional charges on the go) and an accompanying app that toggles between languages. 3. How much does it cost? Pilot is currently available for pre-order at $249* USD, and will include the following selected languages: French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, along with English. Additional languages will be available for purchase by language groups. 4. What languages are supported? We are first introducing latin/romance languages (French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, along with English) and will begin adding additional languages this fall, including Germanic, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Slavic and East Asian. 5. Will it translate everything around me? No. This first generation does not translate everything happening around you. It only translates with people who also have the Pilot earpiece. Future generations will be developed to translate everything around you. 6. What if the other person doesn t have an earpiece? If someone does not have an earpiece, they can use the smartphone app which is included. Also, the app can be used on speakerphone for conferences. 10

10 F.A.Q How fast is it? Currently the translation only takes a couple of seconds of delay, but we are working very hard to get this lag shorter and we will release updates to the app with every improvement. 10. Will it translate for my dialect? Every language has various dialects and the earpiece is designed to translate common dialects, although thick accents could disrupt this and cause improper translations. 8. Is the translation perfect? No, machine translation is not perfect and it will make mistakes sometimes, but the more people use it the better the translation engine becomes. 9. Can it be used offline? 11. How can one be a beta tester? We plan to invite a select group to become beta testers, based on certain factors, including language spoken, location, and use cases. We ll be sending a notice later this spring to allow for beta testing submissions. We are developing an online version so that you can use it while traveling overseas without a data connection, but it will not be released in the first version of pilot. 11

11 Pilot Speech Translator App In October 2016, Waverly Labs will launch the first version of the Pilot Speech Translator App on ios and Android. The app will allow users to write, read and speak (speech translation) from/into English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. In a constant effort to provide users with the best quality translations, speech translation will be limited to European/Latin languages. However, in order to fulfill the various needs of Waverly Labs international community, the app will allow text translation for dozens of other languages and a support of various dialects and pronunciations. We believe launching a simple speech translation app before the Pilot launch will enable our users to become more familiar with speech translation technology and the Waverly Labs products. 13 F.A.Q How does the Pilot Speech Translator app work? The Pilot Speech Translator app allows users to translate between languages in two ways: speaking or texting, depending on the languages. Users will select the source language and the target language. If the source language does not support speech recognition, a keyboard will appear to type the [words][phrase]. If your source language supports speech, simply press the microphone and begin speaking. The translation will appear soon after. 2. What is speech translation? Speech translation is the action of translating one language into another language by speech, rather than text. The app supports the following other languages for text translation: German, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, Hindi 4. Why is my language not supported? Currently, the Pilot Speech Translator app is designed for Romance-based languages. Additional language groups from the current text pool will be added soon, including Russian, East Asian, Middle Eastern and African languages. The technology behind Speech Translation, which include machine translation and machine learning is subjective to several elements such as the speaker, the language chosen or even the context. In general, the more people use the technology, the better it gets. 7. Does the Pilot Speech Translator app require an internet connection? The current version of the Pilot Speech Translator app requires Internet or data connection. Future versions of the app will allow for offline use. 8. What is the purpose of the Phrasebook page? The Phrasebook page allows users to store frequently used translations. This feature is convenient for offline translation needs as the user can store translation history and refer to it. 15
