NOISE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY What is hearing loss Hearing is an important part of the five senses. Along with the other senses, it enables us to perform our day to day activities and sustain meaningful communication as we interact with our environment -- its people, its surroundings, and everything else that makes up of the society we move in. Our sense of hearing is delicate as it is constantly exposed to external factors that are harmful. Without proper care, it can be damaged. Unfortunately, this damage is irreversible. 60% of childhood hearing loss is due to preventable causes. World Health Organization The ProTechtON high fidelity earplugs are engineered for ultimate hearing protection so you can excel in what you do safely. It s the only armor you ll need against highrisk sound levels. The plugs are specifically designed for noise cancellation and noise reduction so you keep yourself protected at all times. Hearing loss, also known as hearing impairment, refers to your inability to hear which can either be a decrease in performance or permanent damage. The causes for hearing loss are varied: - Genes - Aging - Head trauma - Tumors in the head - Exposure to loud noise 3
NRR/SNR Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) - The NRR measures how much a hearing protector can reduce the overall noise level. Designed by Asierromero / Freepik Single Number Rating (SNR) - The SNR is a single number rating (in decibel) system by the International Organization for Standardization s ISO 4869 Certification. SYMPTOMS OF HEARING LOSS Hearing ringing sounds in a quiet environment (otherwise known as Tinnitus, refer to Fast Facts) Muffled hearing Difficulty understanding verbal statements with clarity Not clearly understanding conversations over the phone Ear pain, irritation, or itching Laboratories that are independent of the manufacturers of hearing protection test the earplugs to determine the SNR value which is used to gauge the noise level attenuation capabilities of any hearing protection device. 4
How it happens Hearing loss happens over time gradually and unnoticeably. It s a silent killer. It has no visible symptoms that give you a signal it's occurring. In fact, the only way you ll notice it is when you re actually experiencing hearing loss. Affected people who are experiencing the distress of hearing loss understand how important using hearing protection is. If only they d have worn protection sooner, they wouldn t have hearing loss now. Unfortunately, hearing loss is unpredictable. It can be permanent or temporary; you can have hearing loss in one side or have it on both ears. Designed by Asier_Relampagoestudio / Freepik The reality is that we can t control the environment we re in but what we can control is how we react to the trigger within the environment. Meaning, even though you can t control the noise levels from breaking the maximum recommended level wherever you go, what you can do is protect yourself. 1 All this depends on three major factors: 2 3 LENGTH OF EXPOSURE TO NOISE SEVERITY OF NOISE LEVEL 5 INDIVIDUAL RESISTANCE TO NOISE
Wear hearing protection now or use hearing aids forever 120dB 96dB 72dB dB dB 60 0dB Conversation Vacuum Cleaner Motorcycle Concert Hazardous noises are always present in any environment. Every day, we are exposed to different sounds: conversations, phone calls, alarm clocks, fruit blenders, TVs, and traffics. Depending on their noise level, some sounds that are beyond the normal noise safety level can potentially damage your hearing as a long-term effect. 6
The workplace is a prominent ear-damaging environment: artists and musicians performing on stage with loud speakers, construction workers using bulldozers, gardeners strolling through your backyard with lawn mowers, and even office employees wearing headsets while working. Spending most of your time at the workplace puts you at risk of hearing loss as you get exposed to several noise sounds at different levels. That being said, hearing loss can happen to anybody. 1.1 billion young people (aged between years) are at risk of hearing loss due to exposure to noise in recreational settings. World Health Organization 7
Hearing loss is incurable, but it can be prevented. To prevent hearing loss, we need to understand what it is, how it happens, and what triggers it. Designed by kjpargeter / Freepik THE STATISTICS Adults ages 60 and above experience hearing loss as a result of aging 1 out of 10 people have hearing loss 3 out of 5 military personnels suffer from hearing loss, hearing injuries, or Tinnitus 1 out of 5 people have Tinnitus 10% of those suffering from hearing loss can no longer benefit from hearing aids 83% of the youth ages 6-18 are unaware they have acquired hearing loss 8
FAST FACTS Tinnitus - an incurable condition where the affected experiences ringing sounds in the ear. These ringing sounds, however, do not come from an external source and cannot be stopped. The ringing sounds can also be buzzing, whistling, hissing, and whirring sounds. This noise is more noticeable at quiet places and environments with low background noises (sleeping time, libraries, etc.). Designed by skadyfernix / Freepik Designed by luis_molinero / Freepik Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) - NIHL is hearing loss caused by exposure to loud sounds. These can either be an immediate, intense sudden sound (gunshots, explosions) or gradual, continuous exposure to loud sounds for a definite period of time (noise from construction sites, woodworking shops, concerts). There is no reason to deal with hearing loss with today's modern advancements in hearing protection. 9
Want to find out if you re suffering from hearing loss? Here is a quick test with some basic questions: 1) Do you sometimes have difficulty understanding speech on the telephone or TV? Yes No 2) Do you sometimes feel that people are mumbling or not speaking very clearly? Yes No 3) Do you find yourself asking people to speak up or repeat themselves? Yes No 4) Do you experience difficulty understanding soft speech? Yes No 5) Do you find it difficult to follow a conversation in a noisy restaurant or crowded room? You will have a complete set for hearing protection that includes reusable silicone ear plugs, disposable foam ear plugs, carrying metal tube, a brush for cleaning the ear plugs and as a bonus you will get a swimming protection set, which include a pair of swimming ear plugs and a nose clips along with it s own carrying case. 20
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS Most people assume that wearing hearing protection means they re safe. However, this is not true for earplugs. To ensure quality protection, please make sure you wear the earplugs correctly with proper fitting and accurate insertion. NOISE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY While holding the stem, reach a hand over your head and gently pull top of your ear up and back. Insert the earplug so all flanges are well inside your ear canal. NOISE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY Reach over your head with a free hand, pull your ear up and back and insert the earplug well inside your ear canal. Insert the earplug so all flanges are well inside your ear canal. NOISE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY With clean hands, roll the entire earplug into narrowest possible crease-free cylinder. Reach over your head with a free hand, pull your ear up and back and insert the earplug well inside your ear canal. 21
NOISE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY CLEANING, CARE AND USE FOAM EARPLUGS CLEAN The ProTechtON foam earplugs are disposable. After a single use, the plugs lose its elasticity. If they are reused, the foam plugs might not expand in the ears properly. Therefore, providing deteriorated noise reduction and hearing protection. Reusing the earplugs may also accumulate bacteria, dirt, and earwax. CARE Prior to inserting the earplugs, inspect the plugs for dirt, damage, or unusual hardness. Clean your ear canals before using the earplugs. Discard after use. Foam ear plugs are designed to fit in any kind of ear canal. The elastic material will squeeze in even the narrowest ear. This type of ear plugs offers the highest level of protection, reaching levels like 32dB-33dB on the NRR scale. 22
CLEANING, CARE AND USE SILICONE MULTI-USE EARPLUGS CLEAN Clean the earplugs by washing them with a water jet after each use Alternatively, you can wash the earplugs in warm water and rub it with mild soap. Make sure to remove the dirt as you scrub the earplugs to avoid infection and irritation upon next use. Place your earplugs on a clean towel and leave them to dry. CARE Prior to inserting the earplugs, inspect the plugs for dirt, damage, or unusual hardness. Clean your ear canals before using the earplugs. Store the earplugs in your case when not in use. Silicone ear plugs are designed to fulfill the every day needs of any person. The soft material make them very comfortable to use. The silicone ear plugs have better tolerance to water, unlike the foam ear plugs. They can be used for protection while you are doing any kind of activities, including swimming. The main advantage of silicone ear plugs is that they are reusable, if they are receiving proper clean and care. 23
CLEANING, CARE AND USE USE Avoid pushing the earplugs deep into your ear to prevent damages to your eardrums. Remove the earplugs gently by turning the plugs carefully and pulling them away slowly to avoid damage to the ear drums. To use the foam earplugs, role the earplugs in a cylindrical motion using your fingertips and insert them in your ear. Do not rub the foam set in between your palms as it will result to disproportion of the earplugs. IMPORTANT NOTES FROM THE MANUFACTURER: Keep away from children 3 years old and below due to risks of swallowing the earplugs and choking hazards. If you have sensitive ears or specific ear health issues, consult a doctor before using the earplugs. To ensure 100% hearing protection, make sure that the earplugs are properly fitted/inserted. 24
