With the launch of this new filling material, Ivoclar Vivadent has shown its commitment to finding viable alternatives to amalgam by 2020, as required by the UNEP initiative. Joint commitment At the recent World Oral Health Forum in Poznań, Poland, representatives of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the World Dental Federation (FDI) declared their commitment to promoting the development of inexpensive, mercury-free alternatives to amalgam in restorative dentistry. Even though UNEP has questioned the environmental safety of amalgam due to its mercury content, the product remains very popular in developing and threshold countries because of its successful longterm track record. Furthermore, in these country, access to modern esthetic dental composites is often limited. Cention N the alternative to amalgam Cention N has been specially developed for the requirements of these markets. The filling material offers a cost-effective substitute for amalgam and fulfils the need for a tooth-coloured material in the posterior region. Additional benefits of the product include its high flexural strength and straightforward application protocol. Few working steps The product is applied without having to use a primer, varnish or curing light. Compared with conventional glass ionomer cements, it saves up to seven working steps (comparison with the clinical procedure of Fuji IX GP from GC). This innovative new powder-liquid filling material is suitable for the placement of permanent Class I and II restorations in the posterior region.

2 DIRECT RESTORATIVES Tetric N-Flow Bulk Fill A time-saving procedure to create natural esthetics in posterior restorations For many years, the universal composite Tetric N-Ceram has been proven successful in restorative dentistry. As part of the ongoing development of restorative materials, a further innovation has now been launched: Tetric N-Flow Bulk Fill for the posterior region. The new flowable composite complements the mouldable Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite with its enamel-like translucency. Tetric N-Flow Bulk Fill is applied as a bulk-fill base in Class I and II restorations. It can be light-cured in large increments of up to four millimetres, requiring only short light exposure times. Excellent affinity to cavity walls and self-levelling consistency round off the benefits offered by this volume replacement material. More efficiency due to innovative technologies User studies have shown that clinicians can save up to 55% of the time required for the incremental technique if they use a bulk-fill material*. Another strength of the new composite lies in the Aessencio technology. This technology causes the translucency of the material to decrease from 28% to approx. 10% during polymerization. In combination with the highly reactive patented Ivocerin light initiator, the Aessencio technology enables composite increments up to a thickness of 4 mm to be cured. Given the low dentin-like translucency, discoloured tooth structure can be effectively masked. This property makes Tetric N-Flow Bulk Fill the ideal companion for Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, which features an enamel-like translucency. 3 Bluephase Meter II Highest accuracy in comparative study 1 The accuracy of four commercial dental radiometers was examined and evaluated in a study conducted at the University of Leeds in Great Britain. In this study, Bluephase Meter II was found to be significantly more accurate than its competitors. The light outputs of several different polywave and monowave light curing units were measured. The output measurements with a gold standard integrating sphere were used as reference values. The light output of each light curing unit was measured with four radiometers and the readings were compared with the reference values. The result shows that only the Bluephase Meter II was found to be statistically reliable in measuring the light output. Findings The commercial radiometers demonstrated considerable differences in the measured outputs. With an accuracy of 96%, Bluephase Meter II came closest to the reference values measured with the integrating sphere. This may be explained by the fact that the Bluephase Meter II has an especially large sensor surface area that takes the diameter of the light guide tip into account when calculating the light output. 4 DIRECT RESTORATIVES OptraSculpt Time-saving contouring due to non-stick effect The name OptraSculpt stands for innovative modelling instruments for the efficient contouring of composite restorations. In addition to the tried-and-tested OptraSculpt Pad for anterior restorations, a matching instrument for the posterior region has recently been introduced with OptraSculpt Next Generation. Success factor Apart from other factors, successful contouring significantly influences the long-term success of the treatment. Correct anatomical contouring of all restoration areas is crucial to the overall health of the masticatory system. The occlusal design, for instance, plays an important part in the functioning of the chewing system. Correctly designed proximal marginal ridges facilitate the cleaning of interdental spaces. Moreover, carefully adapted restorations reduce the chance of developing secondary caries and smooth restoration surfaces minimize the accumulation of plaque. Innovative solutions for everyday dental procedures The new modelling instrument OptraSculpt Next Generation comes with three attachments: ball, pointed tip and chisel. Sophisticated anatomical structures can be professionally crafted with these attachments. In addition, the instrument is ideally angled for the posterior region, allowing users to comfortably reach all the areas to be treated. The attachments are stored in a hygienic dispenser box and can be easily removed. OptraGate Isolation made easy Treatment success is not the only thing that clinicians care about. Happy patients are equally important. Unfortunately, it is often not possible to achieve a completely dry treatment field and ensure a full view of the oral cavity at the same time. 5 FIXED PROSTHETICS Programat CS4 The ideal combination furnace The Programat CS4 combination furnace is suited for both sintering zirconium oxide restorations made of IPS e.max ZirCAD LT and crystallizing IPS e.max CAD restorations. The sintering of ZrO 2 restorations requires a sintering furnace that offers fast sintering programs. The crystallization of IPS e.max CAD requires a crystallization furnace. The Programat CS4 does it all: it combines sintering, crystallizing and glazing in a single compact unit for the dental practice. Short sintering times After wet machining, IPS e.max ZirCAD LT restorations can be sintered in the Programat CS4 in 37 minutes using the pre-set speed program. The running time includes the predrying process, which is optimally coordinated with the material. If the aim is to achieve an extra high level of esthetics, a pre-set 57-minute program can be used. Depending on the program, up to six units (e.g. six single crowns or two three-unit bridges) can be sintered in one go. A pre-set program is also available for the glazing process. Optimally coordinated programs The furnace also offers optimally coordinated pre-set programs for the crystallization and glazing of IPS e.max CAD and IPS Empress CAD restorations. These programs, too, allow up to six units to be processed at the same time. The Programat CS4 can be calibrated on-site by means of a two-point calibration process to ensure that the restorations are of a consistent high quality. The furnace can be operated easily and intuitively via the membranesealed keypad. Furthermore, the Programat CS4 is designed as a standalone unit affording users an extra measure of independence. In addition to pre-set programs, individual programs are available. Alternative ceramics can therefore also be processed in the furnace.

6 FIXED PROSTHETICS Programat S1 and Programat S Now even more flexible due to software update The Programat S1 and Programat S can now be used for an even wider range of application due to the V5.0 software version and the new Programat Dosto Tray. The Programat S is a lightweight, compact sintering furnace designed for the processing of IPS e.max ZirCAD and alternative ZrO 2 materials. A special feature is the fact that the furnace allows sintering processes of up to a temperature of 1,600⁰ C. New pre-set programs Pre-set programs (normal and speed programs) for full-contour crowns and bridges made of IPS e.max ZirCAD MT, IPS e.max ZirCAD MT Multi and IPS e.max ZirCAD LT are one of the new features of the software update. More capacity The Dosto Tray has been especially developed for laboratories with a high throughput. This new sinter tray enables technicians to sinter up to 40% more restorations per sintering cycle if a standard program is used. This means that the Programat S1 and the Programat S allow now an even more universal and efficient use in the dental lab.the Programat Dosto Tray is available as an accessory. The V 5.0 software update can be downloaded from the Download Centre free of charge. Programat P710 Intelligent cooling process with infrared technology (IRT2) The infrared technology of the Programat P710 undergoes further development on an ongoing basis. As result, the furnace now features a new IRT2 function that allows the temperature on the surface of the fired restorations to be measured while the furnace opens after the firing process. A thermal image is displayed on the screen. Sensor-controlled cooling process Once the restorations have reached the ideal removal temperature, a message appears on the screen, saying that the restorations can now be removed. In this way, the cooling process is now also monitored by the IRT technology and can be accomplished with even more control and efficiency. The new IRT2 function is also available as free software download to technicians who are already using a Programat P710 furnace.

7 Programat Software update provides enhancements The new Programat machines delivered since the end of April 2017 have all been equipped with updated software, which provides new functions and enhancements. Programat P710 The IRT2 function displays the best time to remove the restoration after firing. For this purpose, an infrared camera measures the surface temperature of the restoration. Programat P310, P510, CS2 and CS3 The software update adds a variety of improvements to these units, for example, new pre-installed programs and firing parameters. This increases the userfriendliness of these machines. Programat EP 3010 and EP 5010 The Fully automatic Press Function (FPF) ensures fully automatic pressing of the IPS e.max Press ceramic. The operator simply presses the FPF key and the furnace takes care of the rest. IPS e.max Shade Navigation App (SNA) Five steps to selecting the correct shade and translucency level SNA The new IPS e.max Shade Navigation App recommends a suitable shade and translucency level for all IPS e.max restorations. It takes into consideration all the major factors that influence the overall shade design. The search for the correct ingot, a matching block or a suitable disc has become much easier. The app establishes the best possible solution on the basis of the information entered by the operator: in other words, the factors that influence the tooth shade and the desired final tooth colour. This takes the guesswork out of this task. Many different possibilities But there is more. The results can be compared with the A-D shade guide. Moreover, additional teeth may be evaluated at the same time. A record of the results is saved, which may be shared with colleagues. The product s esthetics, adhesion and handling properties convinced the respondents. Seven hundred dental professionals in Germany, France, Italy and the US gave detailed accounts of their experiences with the light and dual-curing luting composite that was launched on the market in The results were clear: On average more than 90 per cent of the people surveyed reported that they were satisfied or even highly satisfied with Variolink Esthetic. Many excellent properties The participants of the survey were pleased with the product s main strengths of outstanding esthetics, excellent adhesion and easy handling as well as with many other features and benefits. The respondents praised the easy removal of excess and the smooth consistency among other characteristics. Furthermore, none of them reported any postoperative sensitivity after having used the material. Future use Based on this high satisfaction rating, 97 to 99 per cent of the respondents, depending on the country, said that they would continue using Variolink Esthetic in the future. More than half of them indicated that they would recommend the luting composite to their colleagues. 9 IPS e.max lithium disilicate More confidence due to 500 MPa Dental professionals from all over the world trust the strong and esthetic IPS e.max glass-ceramics. More than a decade of continuous quality testing has shown that IPS e.max lithium disilicate exhibits a mean biaxial flexural strength of 500 MPa. 11 IPS e.max ZirCAD LT Monolithic zirconium oxide crowns and bridges Due to its high flexural strength and fracture toughness and the possibility of non-invasive preparation, monolithic zirconium oxide is one of the most frequently used materials in dentistry. IPS e.max ZirCAD LT now allows this popular material to be used for monolithic restorations. Esthetically pleasing, monolithic zirconium oxide restorations are efficiently produced with IPS e.max ZirCAD as a result of a fast sintering process (e.g. in the Programat CS4). Non-invasive preparation IPS e.max ZirCAD is characterized by high strength (1,200 MPa 1 ) and high fracture toughness. Consequently, relatively thin restoration walls are permitted (posterior crown: min. 0.6 mm; anterior crown: min. 0.4 mm). Crowns and three-unit bridges require only minimal preparation of the teeth and they can be conventionally cemented. An added plus: The glazing paste called IPS e.max CAD Crystall./Glaze is now also available in a fluorescent form. The monochromatic LT blocks are supplied in seven A D shades and one Bleach shade. They are available in the sizes C17 and B45. The restorations are milled in enlarged form, e.g. using CEREC and inlab or PlanMill Subsequently, they are densely sintered to obtain their final shape, e.g. in the new Programat CS4. If the restorations are wet-milled, this process takes 37 minutes 3, irrespective of the shade or number of restorations. End of workflow After the IPS e.max ZirCAD restorations have been tried in, they are efficiently and thoroughly cleaned with the Ivoclean paste. Therefore, sandblasting after the try-in is unnecessary. 12 FIXED PROSTHETICS IPS Style Strong bond in combination with compatible alloys All that glitters is not gold this saying also holds true for many metals used in dental lab technology. It does not necessarily have to be gold all the time. This has been proven by the IPS Style metal-ceramic system. Together with a compatible alloy, this material produces a strong bond which is worth much more than gold. A special alloy certificate shows the alloys that are suitable for this purpose. The certificate distinguishes between high-gold, reduced-gold, palladium-based and implant alloys.
