However, advantages do not appear on other conditions such as diabetes, old age disability, occupational injuries. 8 The Immigrant Paradox The immigrant paradox refers to the same combination observed in immigrants, principally Mexican immigrants, compared to U.S. born Latina/o subjects. The immigrant paradox was only consistently found for Mexican immigrants who reported lower rates of depression, anxiety and substance abuse and dependence compared to U.S.-born Mexican subjects 20.4% of U.S.-born Latina/o subjects reporting lifetime prevalence compared to 7% of Mexican immigrants.
