2 Project Description The study focused on the evaluation hypoglycemic property orange peel extract. The degree effectiveness to the treatment high blood glucose levels will be determined through the introduction orange peel extract. This experiment took place under the laboratory Bicol University College Science, Building Three. Four (4) treatments were prepared and three (3) male ICR strain albino mice were used as an experimental model in twelve (12) Alloxan induced albino mice for one (1) month. Only fresh orange peels Ponkan Oranges were used.

3 Objectives the Project This study sought to find out answers to the following: 1. What is the effect orange peel extract on the male albino mice when treated with varying amount as follows: a. 100 ml/kg distilled water (negative control); b. 50 ml/kg ethanol peel extract; c. 100 ml/kg ethanol peel extract; d. Metformin 100mg/kg (positive control)? 2. What is the effect orange peel extract in reducing blood glucose level on male albino mice? 3. How effective is the orange peel extract in decreasing blood glucose levels male albino mice as compared to a commercial medication for type 2 diabetes (metformin)?

6 PROBLEM NO.1 Evaluation the effect orange peel extract on the male albino mice when treated with varying amount as follows: a. 100 ml/kg distilled water (negative control); b. 50 ml/kg ethanol peel extract; c. 100 ml/kg ethanol peel extract; d. Metformin 100mg/kg (positive control)?

7 FINDINGS The effect varying amounts the effect orange peel extract on the male albino mice was evaluated and thus resulted with the following ranking with 1 as the most effective and 4 as the least effective: 1. T2 100 ml/kg ethanol peel extract 2. T1 50 ml/kg ethanol peel extract 3. T3 Metformin 100mg/kg 4. T0 100 ml/kg distilled water

8 PROBLEM NO.2 What is the effect orange peel extract in reducing blood glucose level on male albino mice? FINDINGS The analysis shows that the efficacy the two orange peel extracts (Treatment 1 and Treatment 2) were proven to be significant and thus effective in reducing blood glucose levels.

9 PROBLEM NO. 3 How effective is the orange peel extract in decreasing blood glucose levels male albino mice as compared to a commercial medication for type 2 diabetes (metformin)? FINDINGS As reflected in the analysis, the two orange peel extract treatments are effective levels and thus have a same effect with the commercial medication for type 2 diabetes (Metformin) in terms reducing blood glucose levels. It also showed that the orange peel extracts are more significant with its hypoglycemic effect.
