Methods The binocular vision functions in 66 patients with intermittent exotropia were examined with Titmus steriomap Bagolini striated glasses Worth four dot and synoptophore. All data were processed using SPSS13. 0 software and the abnormal rate of binocular vision and correlation were analyzed with Chi square test with P < as the statistical significance. Results 1The abnormal rate was 100% 66. 7% 63. 6% and 25. 8% for in-fusion range stereopsis vision out-fusion range sinmultaneous perception by synoptophore respectively P < In Bagolini striated glasses and Worth four dot tests the abnormal rate of fusion function at far distance was higher than that at near distance P < The abnormal rate of stereopsis at far distance was significantly higher than that at near distance 66. 7% vs 18. 2% P < The abnormal rate of stereopsis at near distance was the lowest by Titmus test. The abnormal rate of simultaneous perception was not significantly different between Titmus test and synoptophore test. Except this the other abnormal rates were significantly different from those by the other tests. 4There was a linear correlation between fusion function by Baglini striated glasses test and in - fusion range with synoptophore. There was no relations between the results of other different tests. Conclusion 1The synoptophore test has the highest sensitivity to detect the fusion range for diagnosing the intermittent exotropia in the early stage. 2Bagolini striated glasses and Worth four dot tests have a higher sensitivity to detect the abnormality of the binocular vision function and they are cheap and simple. 3The results of four tests are not correlated. They have different sensitivities in evaluating the binocular vision function of intermittent exotropia and can coordinate and supplement each other.
