2 Aloha! Thank you for your interest in apprenticing with Arlene in her home-studio, Bodywork & Pilates. This is a rigorous mentorship that will teach you Joe Pilates original/classical method as passed down by first generation master teacher, Jay Grimes. An application is enclosed for you to fill out and submit. Please read the apprenticeship summary and the required pre-requisites to assess your readiness. Good luck on your journey. Objectives Of Apprenticeship To be studious and able to assist the teacher at all times, and to project a consistent positive energy to each client and help maintain orderliness of the studio Learn Pilates fundamentals by practicing the exercises on the Pilates apparatus: The Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Electric Chair, Arm Chair, Spine Corrector, Small Barrel, Ladder Barrel, Pedi-pole, Magic Circle, Foot Corrector, Toe Corrector, Neck Stretcher, Airplane Board, The Wall, Bean Bag, Push Up Device, Breath-a cizer, and Free Weights Learn to teach others, work with different body types, develop your skills of observation, trust your intuition. Learn to see asymmetries, dysfunction, weakness, tightness and understand how to work with the body in front of you, understand how to use the full Pilates system to guide your clients to be more coordinated, balanced, strong, efficient and fluent in movement. Duration Of Apprenticeship The apprenticeship is comprehensive and spread out over the course of months and totaling 600 hours. Working one-on-one with Arlene, components of your training and schedule can be flexible. If you are already a certified teacher, the goals and required hours of your apprenticeship will be customized based on the results of your initial assessment. All in all, the break down of the full apprenticeship consists of;
3 4 Intensive Workshop Weekends 4 Exercise Review Sessions 1 Body Mechanics Workshop 30 Private Sessions 30 Open Studio Classes 225 Practice Teaching Hours 175 Self-Practice Hours 100 Observation Hours Homework & Specific On-Line Viewing w/written Assignments Assist Teaching Studio Cleaning Apparatus Maintenance 4 Assessments 1 Final Written Exam Prerequisites Doctor s clearance Trainers insurance An in-person assessment by Arlene Salomon which will entail an interview and Mat and Reformer workout. You must be able to demonstrate the exercises listed below that are highlighted in red. If you are a certified teacher, you must be able to demonstrate all of the exercises listed below. The initial assessment fee of $110 is in addition to the total cost of apprenticeship and is nonrefundable regardless of your acceptance or nonacceptance as an apprentice. Cost $5,820, plus required texts (payment plans available) Refund Policy 90% refund for cancellations before 14 days of the decided start date 50% refund for cancellations within 14 days of the decided start date No refunds once the apprenticeship has begun
