2 Training Special Populations Most individuals could be classified as special population Inexperienced With Exercise Health Challenges (BP, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, injury) Stress/Depression/Anxiety Over Training Fad Diets/Cookie Cutter Programs Strong Ideas About Their Program- (won t listen to the trainer) Positive rapport with a personal trainer or exercise professional can shape an individual s workout experience and attitude towards fitness

11 The Trainer The terms Personal Trainer and Exercise Professional are subjective Hundreds of entities certify trainers requiring various levels of intellectual and practical knowledge Individuals may receive a personal trainer/exercise professional certification with no formal education or experience in the field Good trainers and professionals in the industry come from both formal and informal training backgrounds Trainers need to find the right environment for their skills Fitness Facilities and Programs need the right trainers for their mission to be accomplished

22 In Conclusion There is no standard regimen for individuals with chronic conditions Trainers must utilize a variety of resources, program designs and suggestions for workouts to be tolerable and effective for the client Clients should be encouraged to own their own health and decisions The rapport developed and maintained by a trainer with a client is a key indicator as to whether or not a person will continue with the Weight Management program Success for a Weight Management participant does not necessarily look like a number on a scale or a clothing size Every workout session is a challenge to the trainer as well as the participant! Take advantage of this challenge as an opportunity to become more creative with your program designs, modifications, coaching skills and professionalism.
