1 174: The MELT Method Restore Series Time Block E - Friday, 2:00-3:50pm Presented by: Sue Hitzmann, MS, CST, NMT, Creator of MELT Session Format: Workshop Chronic aches, pains and inflammation are not an inevitable part of getting fit, or getting older yet it is becoming an epidemic among your clients and your co-workers. Joint pain and muscle aches keep many out of the gym and away from the things they love to do. Digestive issues and sleep problems are a sign that your body is already working inefficiently. Find out why and how the body senses pain, and how MELT 's unique Hands-Off Bodywork techniques can reduce chronic pain symptoms and return the body to a more efficient state. Learn how to use MELT Hand and Foot Treatment Balls and specialized soft foam rollers to help your body function more efficiently. What is the MELT Method? The MELT Method is a breakthrough self-treatment system that restores the supportiveness of the body's connective tissue to combat chronic pain, improve performance, and decrease the accumulated stress caused by repetitive postures and movements of everyday living. MELT simulates the hands-on techniques that manual therapist Sue Hitzmann uses to eliminate stress, pain, and dysfunction in her private clients. MELT is the first applicable neurofascial technique designed to rehydrate connective tissue and rebalance the stress and repair regulators of the nervous system. The consistent results MELT yields are remarkable and undeniable. Previously such results were available only through ongoing, costly bodywork from multiple practitioners. Workshop Objectives: Learn what causes pain and the difference between acute, chronic, and sudden chronic pain. Learn what systems of the body must be addressed to eliminate chronic pain. Learn how to rebalance the rest and stress regulators and rehydrate the connective tissue system using the 4-R s of MELT Experience the MELT Method using specialized self-treatment balls and a soft roller. The Pain Problem The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports that pain affects more people than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined. It is the most common reason individuals seek medical care. Pain is the second leading cause of medically related work absenteeism, resulting in more than 50 million lost workdays each year, according to the American Pain Society. Many people who seem to be pain-free and healthy by all appearances do not feel good on the inside. I can tell you from teaching thousands of fitness and movement professionals over the years that most fitness professionals are in pain. In my experience, this is the most closely guarded secret in the fitness industry. Whole Body Solution The MELT Living Body Model Autopilot Body Sense Masses and Space Tensional Energy NeuroCore The Keys of Hands Off Bodywork Global restoration before direct intervention
2 Restore balance before reintegrating or repatterning muscular timing or movements Treat the system before the symptom The area of pain isn t the problem: Victims vs Culprits The power of Body Sense: Assessing and Reassessing MELT Restore Series MELT directly addresses the effects of stuck stress and imbalance with the four R s - Reconnect, Rebalance, Rehydrate, and Release. The four R s are the MELT formula of self-treatment. Within each category, there are different techniques used to achieve the desired result. The four R s provide the most immediate, lasting changes, which is why you always use all four R s every time you MELT. Reconnect: Reconnect techniques heighten Body Sense and the mind-body connection, which is a vital component of your body s daily repair and healing function. You will learn how to use your Body Sense, not your common senses, to self-assess stuck stress and inefficiency and track your progress. Rebalance: Rebalance techniques directly address the NeuroCore stabilizing mechanisms to improve whole body balance, grounding, and organ support. Rebalance techniques are subtle yet profound in the changes they create. Rehydrate: Rehydrate techniques restore the fluid state of the connective tissue system. These techniques improve the environment for all of your joints, muscles, organs, bones, and cells and the tensional integrity of the body. These techniques also decrease inflammation in the joints and improve the fluid and nutrient absorption of every cell. Release: Release techniques decompress your neck, lower back, and joints of your spine, hands, and feet. Regaining and maintaining the space in your joints will keep you youthful, mobile, and pain-free. The Method of MELT Assess: Learning the art of self-assessment (Reconnect) MELT: Using MELTing techniques (Rebalance, Rehydrate, Release) Reassess: Enhancing body connection (Reconnect) Standing Autopilot Assessment o Common Imbalances showing Autopilot Inefficiency Excessive muscular contraction Toe Lift and Drift: Assess the connection to the body s Center of Gravity (COG) Supine Autopilot Assessment o Common Imbalances in the Masses and Spaces Mid back is excessively arched, putting the majority of the upper body weight on the shoulders Tailbone is on the floor Back of thighs are off the floor Body weight is noticeably offset to one side (left to right) and/or one leg is feels longer than the other
3 SOFT BALL FOOT TREATMENT Autopilot Assessment: Toe lift assess Foot MELT: 1. POSITION POINT PRESSING: Step on the soft ball on each point listed. 2. GLIDE: At position point 5 and over the heel by rocking the heel back and forth over the ball. 3. SHEAR: At Position Point 5 by wiggling the foot while keeping the ball in place. 4. RINSE: Under the foot pad at position point 2 and press ball across the foot in one direction to the outside of the foot 4 times in 1 direction only. Then Rinse by pushing the ball from toes to heel. Move only in one direction from toes to heel. 5. FRICTION: Rub the ball under the entire foot in random directions. Spine Flex Reassess: Reassess spine flex and notice if one arm appears longer than the other. Reassess back line with hip hinge to see if you go further to the floor. Repeat the entire foot treatment on your other foot. Autopilot Reassess: Toe lift and drift. Is the drift less? Can your Autopilot reclaim its connection to your COG? MELT Restore Maps The combination of Reconnecting and Rebalancing your body s relationship with gravity and increasing your inner awareness facilitates natural healing. These MELT Sequences are basic treatments to improve pelvic and whole body stability and restore natural neurological balance. This allows a load to be transferred appropriately so the Autopilot is free to play its many roles in regulation.
