5 The Advanced Myofascial Techniques Series Since 1989, this popular series of seminars presents practicing somatic therapists and qualified students with advanced and little-known myofascial techniques which can be easily incorporated into existing personal styles. 14 Temporalis II Temporalis II C-06 D Side-lying, or supine with head rotated. Use fingers or knuckles to release Temporalis restrictions with movement. Jaw movements: depression/elevation; protrusion/retraction; lateral movements. 04/07

15 Ear: Superior Crura Ohr: superiore Crura C-07 D The upper parts of the external ear can provide effective handles for releasing restrictions and pain in cranial and temporal fascias. Apply gentle traction; feel for release; repeat in various directions. 09/06

16 Ear: Concha Traction Ohr: Zug an der Ohrmuschel C-08 D Grasping concha, apply gentle traction, ask for movement, and wait for release. Repeat in each direction: inferiorly, posteriorly, superiorly, anteriorly (grasping tragus). Use lateral traction on external acoustic meatus to feel deep into cranium via tentorium. Jaw depression/elevation; protrusion/retraction; lateral movements. Use eye movements coupled with jaw movements; feel for restrictions. Alternatively, use jaw movements to feel into TMJ. 09/06

Feel for and release any movement restrictions, encouraging ease and balance. Variations: check for mobility/motility in saggital plane (front/back movement) and horizontal plane (side/side and swiveling movements) as well. 04/07

Subtle approach: gently feel for connection. motility, and release across each vector (rather than using pressure to compress vector). Take your time. Begin with each same-side vector, then each diagonal, and end with occipital vector. Indicated for migraines and vascular headaches, especially when accompanied by visual disturbances. The intention of the palate work in the Neck, Jaw, and Head Part II workshop is width in order to relieve any narrowness or cranial compression. In this variation, intention is headache relief through both trigger point work and opening of cranial vault s base. 09/06
