WINTER MISSIONS BREAKFAST 2017 JERICHO ROAD COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER GLOBAL MISSIONS PRESENTER: MAGDALENA NICHOLS, MHA CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

JERICHO ROAD COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OUR MISSION JERICHO ROAD COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER PROVIDES A CULTURALLY SENSITIVE MEDICAL HOME, ESPECIALLY FOR REFUGEE AND LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN BUFFALO, NY, FACILITATING WELLNESS AND SELF- SUFFICIENCY BY ADDRESSING HEALTH, EDUCATION, ECONOMIC AND SPIRITUAL BARRIERS IN ORDER TO DEMONSTRATE JESUS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR THE WHOLE PERSON.

HER VISION OUR MISSION PHEBIAN ABDULAI WAS BORN IN SIERRA LEONE, THE DAUGHTER OF A KONO DISTRICT MIDWIFE A DECADE-LONG CIVIL WAR ERUPTED IN SIERRA LEONE. PHEBIAN AND HER FAMILY FLED TO THE NEIGHBORING COUNTRY OF GAMBIA, WHERE THEY LIVED IN A REFUGEE CAMP PHEBIAN AND HER FAMILY WERE ABLE TO SAFELY RESETTLE IN BUFFALO. FIRST A PATIENT, PHEBIAN EVENTUALLY BECAME A NURSE AT JERICHO ROAD COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER WHERE SHE WORKED MANY YEARS. PHEBIAN GRADUALLY SENSED GOD CALLING HER BACK TO SIERRA LEONE TO PROVIDE QUALITY HEALTHCARE FOR HER PEOPLE. THE WAR HAD DECIMATED HER ALREADY UNDER-RESOURCED NATION, AND SHE KNEW THE GROWING NEEDS WERE PROFOUND.

HER VISION OUR MISSION CON T EXPLORATION TRIP 2009, A TEAM OF JERICHO ROAD HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, LED BY PHEBIAN ABDULAI, TRAVELED TO KONO DISTRICT, SIERRA LEONE TO BEGIN LAYING THE GROUNDWORK FOR OUR FIRST GLOBAL OUTREACH CLINIC. OUR TEAM VISITED EXISTING HEALTH CARE FACILITIES, IDENTIFIED GAPS AND EXPLORED OPPORTUNITIES FOR LONG-TERM ENGAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY. ALONG THE WAY, WE ENGAGED MANY STAKEHOLDERS TO START BUILDING SUPPORT FOR OUR VISION AND TURN IT INTO REALITY.

HER VISION OUR MISSION CON T PURCHASE OF LAND IN THE YEARS THAT FOLLOWED, JERICHO ROAD CONTINUED SENDING MEDICAL TEAMS TO LEARN ABOUT SIERRA LEONE S HEALTHCARE LANDSCAPE AND BUILD BROAD-BASED SUPPORT. WE IDENTIFIED A PIECE OF LAND IN THE TOWN OF KOIDU AND ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE IN JUNE 2011.

HER VISION OUR MISSION CON T BIRTH OF A CLINIC 2014 CONSTRUCTION ON OUR ADAMA MARTHA MEMORIAL COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER (AMMCHC- NAMED AFTER PHEBIAN S MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER) STARTED IN KOIDU, KONO DISTRICT. FEBRUARY 2015 THE ADAMA MARTHA MEMORIAL COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER (AMMCHC) OPENED IN THE MIDST OF THE WORST EBOLA OUTBREAK THE WORLD HAD EVER SEEN.

ADAMA MARTHA MEMORIAL COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER PHOTO GALLERY

THEIR VISION OUR MISSION GOMA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO THE HISTORY OF DRC IS COMPLEX, FILLED WITH WARFARE, ECONOMIC INSTABILITY, AND CORRUPTION. MANY OF THE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN BORN INTO VIOLENCE AND DO NOT KNOW THEIR PARENTS, OTHERS FLEE THEIR COMMUNITIES AND REMAIN INTERNALLY DISPLACED. JERICHO ROAD RECOGNIZES WHAT A CONCERNING STRESSOR THIS HAS BEEN ON THE CONGOLESE, AND IS CONFIDENT THAT PROVIDING QUALITY HEALTHCARE FOR THE UNDERSERVED IN GOMA IS A CRITICAL STEP TOWARDS IMPROVING THIS COMMUNITY.

WHY GOMA? THEIR VISION, OUR MISSION EXPLORATION TRIP ONE OF THE REALITIES OF THE CONGOLESE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IS THAT, WHILE THERE IS AN ABUNDANCE OF EDUCATED DOCTORS, NURSES, AND ADMINISTRATORS, THERE IS NO SAFETY NET FOR THE POOR. EVERYONE, INCLUDING CHILDREN AND PREGNANT WOMEN, NEEDS TO PAY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CARE. THE SYSTEM LEAVES THE POOREST OF THE POOR WITH LITTLE TO NO ACCESS TO NEEDED MEDICAL SERVICES. IT IS FOR THESE PEOPLE THAT THE WELLNESS CLINIC WAS ESTABLISHED.

THEIR VISION, OUR MISSION THE BIRTH OF A CLINIC Jericho Road s Wellness Clinic in Goma opened its doors in December It is located on the property of New Hope Center for Grieving Children- a facility for traumatized, grieving and orphaned children (as well as widowed mothers and their children). New Hope Center provides intensive support for traumatized and orphaned children (and their families) Jericho Road s Wellness Clinic at New Hope Center is providing essential primary medical care to not only the children and families of New Hope Center but also the most vulnerable individuals within the surrounding communities.
