9 Work and Cancer: the context 119,000 people of working age are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year There are an estimated 500,000 carers of people with cancer in the UK who are working full or part-time 82% of people think its is important to continue to work But 47% had to give up work or change their roles as a result of their diagnosis.
