This list is compatible with products used in the Acute hospitals and will therefore support continuity of patient care across all care settings. Urinary catheters for urethral and supra-pubic use Foley catheters - short term These catheters can be used up to 28 days for urethral and supra-pubic catheterisation. 3 Catheters for intermittent use Nelaton catheters for intermittent use will normally be recommended by a clinical nurse specialist who will suggest the most appropriate one to facilitate safe catheterisation for specific patients. The following hydrophilic catheters are sterile for single use once only. They are ready to use therefore there is no need to add water, lubrication or waiting for the coating to get activated. It is not necessary for a lubricant for example Instillagel to be prescribed with any pre-lubricated or hydrophilic catheter.
