4 balloon catheters BALLOON CATHETERS Safe solutions for permanent transurethral urinary drainage The patient s health and well-being is our motivation to make transurethral urinary drainage, especially when used long-term, as safe as possible. We offer a variety of products which effectively reduce the following sources of irritation of the urethra which can lead to urinary tract infection: mechanical, e. g. by encrustations on the catheter itself bacterial intolerance of the material Our entire indwelling bladder catheters are all: GENTLE the urethra and the sensitive urethral mucosa are preserved SAFE sterile and extremely gentle application minimises the risk of urinary tract infections SMOOTH little tendency to form encrustation and biofilm FLEXIBLE elastic but firm material for easy insertion and maximum wearing comfort TOLERABLE high biocompatibility Based on advanced technology and high quality standards we offer a full range of products for indwelling catheterisa- tion focused on the needs of our patients without neglecting the requirements of doctors and nursing staff. THE MODERN INDWELLING CATHETER IMPORTANT CRITERIA Which features are necessary to meet the demands of a modern and safe indwelling catheter? A high quality, safe and modern indwelling catheter needs a combination of the right smooth material which - has a low tendency for formation of encrustations and biofilm - is easily tolerated by the body - is gentle to the urethral mucosa - is non-allergic - is flexible and supple to ensure the highest level of wearing comfort adequate and softly rounded catheter tip large enough softly rounded catheter eyes non-diffusible inflation liquid for the balloon EFFICIENT fast and continuous drainage performance THE QUALITY REQUIREMENTS OF INDWELLING CATHETERS FOR HIGH-LEVEL SAFETY ARE: tolerable, biocompatible, smooth material smoothly rounded catheter tips and drainage openings (eyes) safe anchoring of the balloon and smooth transition between balloon and shaft valve for secure connection to a Luer or Luer-lock syringe tip colour-code on the catheter for safe identification of the size sterile individual packaging You will find that all these important criteria for long-term use of an indwelling bladder catheter are part of the Teleflex indwelling catheter programme. We offer a broad range of indwelling catheters in different sizes and two different lengths.
Care at home 5 MATERIAL CATHETER TIPS CYLINDRICAL TIP The straight cylindrical tip is easy to use in the anatomically normal urethra. This finely rounded cylindrical tip ensures that the catheter can be advanced gently and atraumatically through the urethra. TIEMANN TIP The curved and slightly tapered Tiemann tip ensures highest control during catheterisation and allows narrow passages in the male urethra to be passed safely and reliably. SILICONE highly biocompatible. Silicone is the ideal catheter material for longterm application, up to 12 weeks. Most of our indwelling balloon catheters are made of pure silicone. They are characterised by their smooth surface both on the inside and on the outside. The risk of encrustations and formation of a biofilm is therefore very low. Silicone is a highly biocompatible material. Irritations of the skin or the urethra or allergic reactions very seldom occur. Our silicone catheters are colorant-free, and therefore transparent, to facilitate monitoring when a catheter needs to be changed. The catheter can be inserted easily and safely due to the firm, yet flexible, quality of the material. This offers a high level of wearing comfort. LATEX * highly flexible. Latex is one of the most commonly used catheter materials. Due to its high flexibility, latex material offers high wearing comfort. Teleflex offers two types of coated catheters made of natural latex compound: SympaCath AquaFlate These catheters are made of hydrophilic coated latex and can be used for long-term application up to 12 weeks. PTFE AquaFlate These catheters are made of PTFE coated latex which is suitable for short- and medium-term care up to 28 days. INFORMATION The catheters in this catalogue feature peelable product record labels on the peel pouch.** * Catheters containing natural latex can provoke an allergic reaction and must not be used for sensitised patients. We recommend that sensitised patients use only pure silicone balloon catheters. ** The Brillant Plus AquaFlate catheters do not feature product record labels.
6 balloon catheters BRILLANT PLUS AQUAFLATE Clear quality for maximum safety and convenience The Brillant Plus AquaFlate catheters are designed to give the patient the most safety and comfort possible for longterm drainage. The silicone catheter and the prefilled syringe with sterile glycerine solution are a perfect package to make life as easy as possible for both the patient and the nursing staff. BRILLANT SAFETY low risk of encrustation and biofilm formation which reduces the risk of urinary tract infection the smooth and flexible material preserves the delicate urethral mucosa soft eyes and tips provide a gentle and safe catheterisation radial balloon ensures safe and optimal anchoring in the bladder constant balloon filling volume due to non-diffusing glycerine solution avoids the risk of catheter dislocation BRILLANT PERFORMANCE large eyes and drainage lumen ensure an efficient, continuous and fast drainage CONTROL due to the radiopaque catheter tip and x-ray contrast stripe along the shaft, the catheter is visible on x-ray images STERILE individual sterile packaging of syringe and catheter reduce the risk of infection CONVENIENT valve for a safe connection to a Luer or a Luer-lock syringe tip for balloon inflation INDIVIDUAL the Brillant Plus AquaFlate catheter is available in different diameters (sizes) and with different tip types BRILLANT COMFORT the high flexibility and biocompatibility of the material guarantee maximum comfort for the user and minimise the risk of allergy the non-diffusing glycerine solution means there is no need for regular checks and repeated filling of the balloon, which allows the patient more comfort and rest
Care at home 7 GLYCERINE SOLUTION FOR INFLATION OF SILICONE BALLOONS Teleflex uses 10 % glycerine solution for inflating silicone balloons. Glycerine solution does not diffuse through the silicone wall of the balloon to any important extent (fig. 1). In silicone balloon catheters inflated with glycerine solution, the reduction in fill volume of the balloon after an indwelling time of 12 weeks is negligible. In contrast, silicone balloons filled with sterile water diffuse clearly and suffer a reduction of over 50 % (fig. 2). Therefore the 10 % glycerine solution means: no more regular checks and repeated filling of the balloon, which gives the patient more rest and is cost and time saving the balloon anchors safely without risk of catheter dislocation reduction of irritation: due to the constant firmness of the balloon there are no wrinkles and the surface is smooth the potential for formation of deposits is low 1 2 BRILLANT PLUS AQUAFLATE STANDARD LENGTH CYLINDRICAL TIP 2 OPPOSING EYES 10 ML STERILE GLYCERINE SOLUTION ch. balloon ref. pip code qty ml ml ml ml ml ml ml STANDARD LENGTH TIEMANN TIP 1 EYE 10 ML STERILE GLYCERINE SOLUTION ch. balloon ref. pip code qty ml ml ml ml ml ml

To take a urine sample, press the tip of a Luer-slip syringe without a needle into the centre of the rubber stopper of the sampling port, turning it slightly, until it penetrates. The urine sampling port has to be disinfected before taking a urine sample. RIDGED UNIVERSAL CONNECTOR All urine bags with needle-free sampling port are also equipped with a specially designed ridged universal connector. It is covered with a protective cap and is suitable for all common catheters. The connector ridges are tapered in the opposite direction to which the catheter is disconnected and guarantee a secure connection with the catheter funnel.
