2 It Is Sugar Your Enemy? Let`s find out, but before that, let`s take a minute to understand natural sugar and also processed sugar. Variations of Sugar in His Natural State Coca leaf - a plant with a complex of mineral nutrients, essential oils with pharmacological effects, was chewed from centuries from people in the Andean region (Amazon), make also Coca tea from these leaves. Instead of added processed fructose, you should eat fructose from natural fruit or plant. Once processed, it becomes something else and causes a lot of health problems. 1

3 Lactose - Found in milk, and turns milk sugar into galactose and glucose which are absorbed into the bloodstream. Is best if you have near you a farm, to know better what kind of milk you drink. Maltose - also known as malt sugar, formed by joining of one type of sugar into double types of sugar, molecule to another group, which may or may not be another carbohydrate. This type of sugar cause many intolerances as well as weight gain and kidney stones. Eat it in its natural forms such as in sweet potatoes, soybeans, barley. Sucrose - it is a molecule composed of two carbohydrates - glucose and fructose. This type of sugar comes from cane and beets. Modern processing can make it look just like table sugar. Before it s been processed it has a lot of health benefits, vitamins, and minerals. Sugar cane and sugar beet are a healthy plant, but superconcentrated and processed it becomes like a drug. In his natural state you should eat or chewed dozen to affect your health, but super-processing makes natural sugars into highly addictive drug substance. 2

4 Types of Processed Sugar That You Know The sugar that you know is made by extracting sugar juice from cane, beets or leaves (like Coca). After that start cleaning, crystallizing and drying process and depending on molasses level different sugar varieties are possible. Crystal sizes have unique characteristics make it suitable for different foods. Sugar color is determined by the amount of molasses remaining on or added giving pleasure flavors. Maybe you think is a good news regarding brown sugar, but you should keep in mind the word `` processed``, and what is processed means is no natural state. White Sugar (granulated sugar) - typical type, most commonly used in cooking, baking. No.2 processed and maybe it is in your kitchen too. Caster Sugar - also known as superfine or bar sugar. Has the smallest size crystal of white sugar, used in smooth and delicate desserts like puddings or mousse. 3

5 Confectioner Sugar - is powdered mixed with a small amount of cornstarch to prevent caking, almost 3%. Maybe on label maybe it is written 100% sugar... It is used in whipping cream, confections. Coarse Sugar - has larger crystal size than white sugar that makes it highly resistant to temperatures, color change and it is used in making liquors, fondants, and confections. Fruit Sugar - is smaller and more uniform in crystal size than white sugar used in pudding desserts, gelatin or powdered drinks. Baker`s special sugar - crystal size is finer than fruit sugar and it was developed especially for the baking industry used for sugaring donuts, cookies, and for a crumb texture in some cake recipes. Pearl Sugar - also known as nib or hail sugar it is a refined white sugar used in topping cakes, brioches. Its density stops it from melting. Demerara Sugar - has a light brown color with golden crystals popular in England used in tea, coffee, cereals. 4

6 Sanding Sugar - Can have small or large size crystals with a sparkling appearance used in baking, confectionery on top of goods. Found in multiple crystals, shiny colors, and have the power to make the goods very good looking. As a plus to the high percentage of processing (NO 1), is also added a chemical part for the coloring. Cane Sugar - sometimes `` natural`` cane sugar, is made from sugar cane, while white granulated sugar is made from either cane or sugar beets. Both plants produce sucrose molecules. This `` natural`` means is less processed than white sugar. Turbinado Sugar- it is a partially processed sugar, only the surface molasses has been washed off, but is not unprocessed, it is not ``raw ``. Has gold color, mild brown sugar flavor, and large crystals than brown sugar. Free- Flowing Brown Sugar or granulated brown Sugarit is a mix of white sugar with molasses, need a special heating and drying process to become nosticky. It is not indicated in baked goods. 5

7 Brown Sugar ( Light brown Sugar, Dark Brown Sugar) - it is a mix of white sugar with a various amount of molasses. Light brown sugar is mostly found in sauces and baked goods. Dark brown sugar is richer in molasses than light brown sugar with a full flavor used in flavored foods. Muscovado Sugar - known as Khandsari, Khand or Barbados sugar- it is a refined to unrefined cane sugar in which the molasses has not been removed. Has strong molasses flavor with a dark brown color, stickier than regular brown sugar with a sandy texture. It is used in food and confectionery, rum or another form of alcohol. You can say it is the most healthier. Liquid sugar which is white granulated sugar that has dissolved in water used in drinks Invert Sugar - result as the process of fructose and glucose, a sweet liquid with equal parts of glucose and fructose used to retain moisture in packaged foods. 6

8 How (can) Sugar Affects Your Immune System If you consume too much processed and/or added sugar you reduce your system ability to kill germs inside your body, put your blood cells into a coma and have a poor dental health, your all system will be unbalanced. It doesn t take much, either. Two shakes per day can do the job. Insulin helps to normalize blood sugar level, but when you eat a large amount of sugar, blood sugar increase, and in time your cells become overwhelmed and resistant to the signal. If you regularly consume sugar, especially in overdose amounts, your body will become confused about when to release insulin and when not to. This is called the Insulin Response, that leads to which two types of diabetes and cancer. Feeds Cancers and Diabetes Cells The fact is, cancer and diabetes cells love sugar. That s because like most living things they need to grow, and they feed with sugar. Cancer cells love white sugar, white flour, and high fructose corn syrup. Diabetes cells love drinking sugar-sweetened beverages. The good thing is that if you simply reduce your consumption of processed sugar, you can reduce your cancer and diabetes risks. 7

9 Hypoglycemia Low blood sugar happens in people who have a condition called hypoglycemia. This can be a condition on its own, but it can also happen in people who have diabetes and take medications like insulin because their bodies don t produce enough on their own. Mineral Balance goes hand in hand to Behavioral Problems - If you eat a lot of sugar, you are likely depleting your magnesium, you lose more chromium, and it affects your behavior. If you are hungry and your blood sugar is low, you will be sleepy and grumpy. If you have an overdose of sugar, you will become agitated and animated. Have you noticed that? The processed foods, sugary drinks or foods are not the right fuel for your body. Are you feel sleepy, lethargic after your lunch? What kind of food do you eat? Also the key to better behavior is blood sugar balance. Gain weight - processed sugar has no vitamins, no minerals, has no health benefits. When you eat sugary or/and processed meals, you re eating empty calories that will cause weight gain. In fact, sugar is often combined with fats and salt which makes the effects even worse. 8

10 Antiaging -Damages of Cells and Tissues the tissues of your entire body (skin, eyes, kidneys, nerves and so on) seem to carry sugar a lot longer than other organs and the body suffer damage from that, leading to problems with sight, wrinkles, nervousness. Increases your Cholesterol and Hyperactivity - for cholesterol are no symptoms, and to be sure the only way is by getting a blood test. But if you are aware of your diet I do not think it is necessary. And if you are hyperactive and you are negatively affected check the amount of sugar consumed per day. Brain - Poor Concentration - Poor Memory the reason why sugar affects your concentration, memory power and also your intellect is the speed which the processed sugar invades the blood cells and then leaves them. The sugar has the power to destroy your brain activity, not to talk to a growing child. You need a balanced level of glucose from natural sugar (vegetable, fruits,) to feed your brain, not short bursts of sugar such as in the form of soft drinks, sweets or cereals. Anxiety and Depression As in the case of the brain sugar enters in the bloodstream quickly, and leave the bloodstream quickly. It gives you a sense of satisfaction at the moment and wanting to keep that state you eat or drink again and again. 9

11 It is a vicious circle, making the problem much worse. It s best to avoid processed and added sugars as much as you can. Acidity -Processed sugar is also very acidic which makes your body to be always into acidic state. That leads to heartburn and digestion problems. Besides Baker`s special sugar, are some types of sugar used only by the food industry and are not and never be available in the supermarket. Why Not??? Well, you do not have the right to know what you eat. This unknown sugar and also No 2 processed shiny, silky white sugar, (brown sugar it is more expensive and does not make profit) are found in everything start from pasta, your daily bread, cereals, delicious hamburgers, sushi, processed foods, condiments, any kind of drinks, mustard, mayonnaise, sauces, and so on. Sweets or shakes are another stories, the proportion of sugar exceeds any measure. 10

12 Have you noticed that? If you not, when you go next time shopping, before put in your cart the chosen product, look at the label. Well, did you see? It is something ending in -ose. Or much more, it is hidden as simply sweetener. This means that it is a certain percentage of sugar there. More terrifying are artificial sweeteners like Aspartame, Acesulfame K, Sucralose. Aspartame -With times the sweetness of sucrose is one of the most artificial non-calorie or low-calorie sweetener used as a sugar substitute in many foods and beverages. In the European Union, it is codified as E951. It is made by joining together the aspartic acid and phenylalanine. Amino acids building blocks of proteins. Don`t be glad of drinking or eating non-calorie or low calorie foods. They affects you more than you think. Acesulfame K, also is known as Acesulfame potassium, or Ace K times the sweetness of sucrose, the rise of sweetness is fast, for this reason, you feel as refreshing. In the European Union, it is known under the E950. It is found in chocolate, coffee, cocoa. 11

13 Sucralose - with 600 times the sweetness of sucrose. In the European Union, it is also known as E955. It is made from sugar in a multi-step chemical process. It is found in sweeteners, fizzy drinks, chewing gum, baking mixes, ice cream, breakfast cereals, salad dressings, etc. Some experts say that processed sugar and also artificial chemical processed sweeteners are not harmful to the immune system, does not cause cancer, diabetes, problems with sight and intellectual development since childhood, infertility, pose a risk to pregnancy, or affect blood sugar levels. What about you? Where do you think these diseases come from? If you think about how much you eat per day and do a calculation of how much unknown sugar you use involuntarily...well, will be a very big WOOOW. Not to mention the amount of known sugar you add as a supplement...frightening The hidden amount of sugar is very hard to find and it is there with a purpose and is not a good one. You should keep in mind that the average adult should not consume more than 90 grams of sugar in a natural state daily, but it is also individual, depending on your lifestyle, diet, physical or intellectual effort. 12

14 That means if you eat 2000 calories each day, you can eat more than 100 grams of sugar a day. How much of that you want to be natural, processed, and/or added sugar is up to you. But obviously, keeping the amount of processed and added sugar lower is better for your body, better for your mind, better for your soul. Do your best to avoid: Processed Food which has tons of sugar and if it doesn t, it has tons of chemicals. Cereals Some "healthy" cereals have more than 23 grams of sugar per serving. Are you add more? Asian Food (Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese) Most restaurantmade or packaged Asian food has an enormous amount of sugar in it. Even sushi. The way sushi is made includes added sugar. Smoothies most smoothie shops use fruits with added sugar which removes any benefits for you. Make your own smoothie using whole, fresh fruit. All kind of Soups and Sauces. Non- calories, low-calories goods which are the most dangerous. 13

15 Bread/Pasta While there is some bread/pasta that are good for you, most bread and pasta are made with highly refined flour and sugar, which affects blood sugar. Read the label before buying it, or make your own bread/pasta. Start to: Drink water-staying hydrated is important to avoid any type of cravings, including sugar cravings. Feed your brain and body with fructose found in organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, seeds, nuts and grains. For your home-made cakes use as much as you can Muscovado sugar. Eat your organic honey-instead added sugar, use honey. In hot water/hot tea or high temperatures cooking it will lose all the benefits, but will not affects your health. 14

16 Know Yourself To Make Better Choices Make a before-after experiment. Pay attention of your present diet, and if you think that you consume too much-processed sugar and/or added, start to not consume the same amount, reduce it step by step, let`s say.. for 1 month. How do you feel?? Do you feel revived, energetic, agile, light, clear and fast thinking, improved memory? Tomorrow when you buy your lunch, and you choose fries, hamburger and/or shake...put them back and choose fish, salad without sauces, and/or a banana. Keep in mind that your body is not designed for added, is not designed for processed and full of chemicals goods. There is no life/energy force in them. To work at full capacity your body, your mind and your soul needs natural organic foods. All rights reserved 15
