4 PAGE 4 OF 33 INTRODUCTION City Power personnel routinely carry out work in close proximity to liquid acid. Whilst every possible safety precaution is followed, the employer is obliged to provide overalls which will give personnel the maximum possible degree of safety whilst, simultaneously, being comfortable enough not to restrict movement or cause discomfort. 1 SCOPE This specification covers City Power s requirements for liquid acid accordance with the requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act, General Safety Regulations, point 2 Personal Safety Equipment and Facilities. 2 NORMATIVE S The following documents contain provisions that, through reference in the text, constitute requirements of this specification. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards and specifications are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this specification are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the documents listed below; SANS Respiratory protection device SANS Eye-protectors for industrial and non-industrial use ISO 6530:2005- Protective clothing against Liquid chemicals ISO 6942:2002- Protection against heat and fire 3 DEFINITIONS AND ABBIATIONS PPE Personal Protective Equipment 4 RESPIRATORY PROTECTION General requirements a) Respirators shall comply to SANS b) Shall be of a single cartridge c) The Respirator filters shall comply with SANS Test The respirator shall be tested in accordance to SANS Packaging and labelling The respirators shall be packed in a suitable packaging Respirators against chemical 4.2 Oil lab gases General requirements Lab use a) Respirators shall comply to SANS b) The Respirator filters shall comply with SANS c) Shall be of a double cartridges Test

5 PAGE 5 OF 33 The respirator shall be tested in accordance to SANS Packaging and labelling The respirators shall be packed in a suitable packaging 4.3 Dust Mask a) The dust mask shall comply with SANS b) The mask shall have the firm securing device to the nose Test The dust mask shall be tested in accordance to SANS Packaging and labelling The dust mask shall be packed in a suitable packaging 4.4 Clinical use Mask General requirements a) The mask shall have the firm securing device to the nose b) The mask shall be suitable for clinical use Test Proof of test report shall be provided showing that the mask is suitable for the surgical use Packaging and labelling The clinical use mask shall be packed in a suitable packaging. 5. DUST COAT (LAB) General requirements a) The garment shall be made of acid resistant material. b) The garment shall be white in colour c) The garment shall be a knee length d) City Power logo shall be displayed on the upper pocket of the jacket e) A provision shall be made for the printing of the name on the left upper pocket of the jacket f) City Power branding shall be on the right upper pocket of the jacket. g) The size shall range from small to 273 large Test a) All test shall be done in accordance to ISO 6530 b) Complete Type test report shall be submitted with the tender Packaging and labeling The coat shall be packed in a suitable packaging designating the size. 6. EYE PROTECTION FOR OIL LAB USE (Goggles) General requirements

6 PAGE 6 OF 33 a) Shall comply to SANS 1404 b) Shall be mist resistant and anti-fog coated to ANSI D3 D4 c) Lens shall be anti-scratch d) Shall provide protection against gases Test The goggles shall be tested and proof to show that they are suitable for protection against gases as per SANS QUALITY MANAGEMENT A quality management plan shall be set up in order to assure the proper quality management of the protective laboratory ppe during design, development, production, installation and servicing phases. Guidance on the requirements for a quality management plan may be found in the SANS ISO The details shall be subject to agreement between City Power and the Supplier. 8. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT An environmental management plan shall be set up in order to assure the proper environmental management of the protective laboratory ppe throughout its entire life cycle (i.e. during design, development, production, installation, operation and maintenance, decommissioning and disposal phases). Guidance on the requirements for an environmental management system may be found in SANS ISO standards. The details shall be subject to agreement between City Power and the Supplier. This is to ensure that the asset created conforms to environmental standards and City Power SHEQ Policy. 9. HEALTH AND SAFETY A health and safety plan shall be set up in order to ensure proper management of the protective laboratory ppe and compliance of the queuing system during installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning phases. Guidance on the requirements of a health and safety plan may be found in OHSAS standards. This is to ensure that the asset conforms to standard operating procedures and City Power SHERQ Policy. The details shall be subject to agreement between City Power and the Supplier.
