1 GENERL GREEMENT ON TRIFFS ND TRDE RESTRITED...L/2336/dd.l ;6 May 1965 Limited Distribution Original: English ONSOLIDTED LISTS OF RESIDUL IMPORT RESTRITIONS ddendum MLT The Government of Malta has submitted the attached list of the import restrictions which it maintains. The list sets out information concerning the basis on which licensing is currently carried out and on the prospects for liberalization. In submitting this list, the Government of Malta has added the following explanatory comments. urrently without any practical limitation, licences are required for all imports from Japan and the State-trading countries. Negotiations with Japan are pending to remove Malta's invocation of rticle V with a view also to removing the requirement of licences for imports from that country. The list does not include special regulations which provide for mostly temporary import restrictions or prohibitions for health and similar reasons. s shown in the list in many instances licences are issued as "open licences". In other instances licences are strictly granted on a non-discriminatory basis and mostly within a yearly quota which is distributed imports. There are y exceptions such as seasonal allocations. Only in very few instances is importamon fully prohibited.

The types of liberalization proposed are indicated in the remarks column by using the letters, and. These letters mean: "" that the removal of the quantitative restrictions is envisaged for the calendar year "" that the removal of the quantitative restrictions is envisaged in case the newly introduced tariff protection proves sufficient. (For this purpose the situation will be reviewed at the end of I965.)
