1 TAMARA L. COHEN, Ph.D. PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL OUTLINE BACKGROUND Dr. Cohen received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Bioengineering from The Pennsylvania State University. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Her scientific research focused on the biomechanics and tissue mechanics of severe clubfoot. Clubfoot is a congenital deformity of the lower extremity that, untreated, results in pain as well as abnormal ambulation and inability to navigate the physical environment, such as walkways and stairs. She utilized motion capture technology and mechanical testing to evaluate the viscoelastic response of conservative correction, as well as to quantitatively characterize the time-dependent behavior of the ligamentous component of the deformity. Dr. Cohen has experience in lower and upper extremity kinematics and kinetics of normal and pathologic populations and has worked in clinical environments with patients with impairments associated with abnormal gait. She has led workshops and lectures on motion capture technology and analysis, as well as tissue mechanics and responses to forces. Dr. Cohen is experienced in communicating with technical and nontechnical audiences alike, through classroom lectures, conferenced presentations, and entrepreneurial endeavors. She specializes in slip, trip, and fall analysis, human factors, and biomechanical and injury causation analysis. AREAS OF SPECIALTY Slip/Trip/Fall Kinematics and Kinetics Human Factors Injury Causation Biomechanics Building Codes and Standards Human Kinematic Analysis and Testing Workplace Safety Human Injury Mechanisms Construction Accidents Illumination Analysis and Testing ADA Compliance Joint Biomechanics Human Tolerance Thresholds EDUCATION Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering, Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, January 2016 Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Bioengineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, December 2006 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE January Present ARCCA, Inc. Senior Biomechanist Investigates the cause, nature, and severity of injuries using biomechanics. Evaluates slip, trip and fall mishaps including stairway falls, and slip resistance testing of walkway surfaces Participates in the experimental design and analysis of human kinematics and kinetics testing as it relates to stairway ascent and descent Performs analysis of building codes associated with personal injuries and premises liability
2 Page 2 Applies the principles of human factors and biomechanics to the anatomy and physiology of the human body to explore the cause, nature, and severity of injuries.
