Keyboard Systems

An articulating keyboard system is one of the most important components of an ergonomic workstation. For people who work on a computer for two or more hours per day, a well-designed articulating keyboard system can provide serious protection from a variety of musculoskeletal disorders, including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, neck pain, and upper and lower back pain.

Since 1999, Humanscale has been the leading manufacturer of articulating keyboard systems, and today sells more than all other manufacturers combined. A decade of ergonomics research shows that using a negatively sloped adjustable keyboard tray maximizes the time spent working in neutral hand, wrist and upper body postures. These postural benefits can t be achieved by just using a keyboard on a height adjustable work surface. Dr. Alan Hedge, Cornell University

Keyboard Components Mechanisms Humanscale offers nine award-winning, negative-tilt mechanism options, from our original standard-bearer, the 2G to our latest 5G, which combines easy dial-a-tilt and height adjustability with the strongest, most stable arm on the market. All of our mechanisms encourage low-risk typing postures and feature easy and intuitive adjustability. Mouse Platforms From our original Swivel Mouse to our new, best-inclass Clip Mouse, which features height, depth and lateral adjustability and can easily be moved to support left or right-handed mousing, any of Humanscale s mouse options will keep you mousing in comfort. Keyboard Platforms Made out of 1 4 phenolic, which combines strength, durability and a slim profile, Humanscale s wide range of keyboard platform options will accommodate any need. Available with Technogel or foam palm supports.

Our Keyboard Systems take you from A to B A Without an articulating keyboard system, the user is forced to lean forward to reach the keyboard, creating the ubiquitous computer hunch and extended wrists. In this position, he is also getting no support from his chair. The result will be neck, shoulder and back pain, as well as risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome B An articulating keyboard system encourages neutral, low-risk postures by allowing the user to lean back in his chair with a relaxed upper body and straight wrists. The Neutral Reach Zone A key to long-term safety and comfort The Neutral Reach Zone is the area that can be conveniently reached with a sweep of the forearm while the upper arm hangs in a natural position at the side. (Sanders & McCormick, 1993) Unlike older generation keyboard/mouse solutions, our keyboard systems are designed to ensure that nearly all users are able to work consistently within their Neutral Reach Zone, and thus maintain a lowrisk, sustainable posture.

Keyboard Systems A highly ergonomic work environment is built around four primary tools task chair, articulating keyboard/mouse support, adjustable monitor arm and task light that work together to improve the health and comfort of computer users. The absence of any one of these four tools may impact the ergonomic benefits of the others, whereas additional components can further improve the workstation s ergonomics. To better understand how the ergonomics leader can dramatically improve your workday with the right assessments, tools and training, contact your Humanscale representative.
