We also introduce our mental rotation studies that compared the reaction times between left- and right-handers and recorded cerebral activations using near-infrared spectroscopy. The reaction time was influenced by the participant's handedness, and cerebral activations were observed in the bilateral sensorimotor, premotor, frontal association, and parietal association cortices. These findings suggested that the participants made left-right judgments by mentally rotating their own hands to the orientation of the hand pictures presented at various angles.
