3 Foreword The current book represents a collection of works presented during the 2 nd International Congress on Neurobiology, Psychopharmacology and Treatment Guidance (ICNP2011), which took place in Thessaloniki Greece, on th November, This series of congresses aim at being useful for the clinician, who fights everyday in the first line for the treatment of real-world patients. The goal was to provide a global and comprehensive update of the newest developments in Psychiatry and the allied sciences in a way which should be both focused and enriched. Many world experts were invited and shared their knowledge and experience under the support and guidance of the European Psychiatric Association and the World Psychiatric Association and the Auspices of the School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Teaching clinical usefulness and application of new knowledge and informed treatment with psychopharmacological agents in a truly multidisciplinary approach was the central axis of the meeting and although the congress embraced high tech research concerning psychopathology, new treatment methods, genetics and molecular biology, it also aimed to put the emphasis on the human factor, both the therapist and the patient. Apart from the humanistic tradition of psychiatry and life sciences, the continuous and unconditional investment on the high level training of professionals and education of patients and their families, emerged as a significant challenge during the last few decades. Medical scientists and public health policy makers are increasingly concerned that the scientific discoveries are failing to be translated efficiently into tangible human benefit. Today, in an all the more complex and technologically advanced environment, the human factor emerges again as the most valuable one, the factor that determines the final outcome. The current volume gathered some distinct works from the congress participants and aims to serve both as a forum of scientific thinking as well as for a resource of knowledge. It represents the first effort of this series of congresses to widely disseminate some of the proceedings. Konstantinos N. Fountoulakis Assist. Professor of Psychiatry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece Chair of the Organizing Committee 2 nd International Congress on Neurobiology, Psychopharmacology & Treatment Guidance ICNP by MEDIMOND s.r.l.
