This exam paper has 6 (six) printed pages (including cover page). 2. The examination is worth 20% of your final mark. 3. The examination consists of THREE (3) sections: SECTION CONTENT MARKS A Knowledge & Understanding 20 B C Application Short answers 15 Thinking & Inquiry; Communication Paragraph Answers 15, 12 TOTAL Section A must be answered directly on the exam paper. 5. Section B & C must be answered in the exam booklet provided, double-spaced. Ensure that you write your name on all answer sheets. 6. For Section B & C, clearly indicate the number of the question which you are answering. 7. Answers must be written in standard English format for an academic audience, unless otherwise stated. 8. Only English paper dictionaries are allowed in the exam. 9. Proofread your answers carefully when you are finished. 10. All answers must be written clearly, using blue or black pen only.

Choose a sociological school of thought to apply to this cartoon. In a well-developed paragraph, apply the theory to the cartoon. Explain your choice through analysis. (A: /5) 2. State the best collective behaviour theory for the following scenario, and give an explanation of your choice, with an application of theory. (A: /5) a) You and your classmates are left without teachers for a week after teachers have decided to protest inequality in the workplace. There are no adults around, and no lessons planned, but due to your impending exam and university entrance preparation you have to act. Examine human behaviour in this scenario. (2.5 marks) b) After some convincing by a few members of your class, the entire class and another class has decided to boycott and not attend classes the following Monday in protest of the actions and behaviour of one of your teachers. Although you and your classmates are not the instigators, you join in anyways. (2.5 marks) 3. Using the theory of Locus of Control, explain which type of person would be most likely to conform to an inappropriate situation involving deviant behaviour. Compare aspects of the theory within your analysis. Justify your explanation with an example. (A: /5) 4. Karl Marx indicated that there are 4 ways in which a worker is alienated. Apply 2 (two) of his reasoning s to your hypothetical job of a waiter in a restaurant. Explain both types of alienation in reference to how a waiter may become alienated and what the result may be. (A: /5)

6 PART C: Thinking & Inquiry (15 marks); Communication (12 marks) From the following 4 questions please CHOOSE 3 TO ANSWER. If more than 3 are written, the first 3 will be marked. Each must be in a well-developed paragraph (PPA) in the exam booklet. Communication marks will be assessed from the 3 paragraphs. Rubrics for communication are provided on the following page. 1. Discuss the ethics, and practical implementation of this law. What would be a force for or against change that people may consider and explain? (T/I: /5 marks: 2 for discussing ethics, 2 for discussing implementation, 1 force for change) 2. Technology as a force for change is evident in many of the challenges and changes we have studied throughout the course. Choose 1 way in which technology has been a force for change and provide specific evidence to support your example. What forces may have acted against that change? How has your example changed or impacted society? (T/I: /5: 1 mark for choice, 2 marks for/against, 2 marks for explanation) 3. Ethnology is the branch of anthropology that compares and analyses different cultures. In your opinion, is it ever right to say a different culture is wrong / bad or just different. Why? Justify your explanation of this with examples from different cultures around the world and your understanding of course material. (T/I: /5: 1 mark for informed opinion, 4 marks for explanation, examples, course material) 4. Address the issues of either overpopulation, or declining populations within a country. Using a specific example, explain the possible causes/impacts of the population issue and discuss the possible consequences/implications of it on that particular society.
