11 3D motion measurement multi-axis perturbation platform force plates Brian Maki As you can see here, there is sufficient room to perform stepping reactions. Under each foot of the subject is a force plate, measures obtained from the force plates include vertical and shear forces, COP, COM and step timing. Overhead cameras allowed for classification of arm and leg reaction characteristics, include step placement and length and confirmation of step timing. Our platform moves in horizontal plane in any direction (usually AP or ML)

31 SoleSensor Stephen Perry Stephen Perry found lateral stepping response very much dependant on mechano-receptor function. Hence developed Sole Sensor Grabbing response lead to handrail design parameters and building codes. Grab bar has different purpose. Won competitive contract to write standards for ABMs in Canada and introduced grab bars. Unstable person can hold on while not able to use mobility aid or reaching for purse, etc. Place grab bars also to help seated person pull up to standing.
