7 Wake Forest Alzheimer s Disease Center: Specific Aims Specific Aim 1: To establish a comprehensive integrated research infrastructure at Wake Forest focused on identifying the causes of AD, and on the potential prevention or treatment of AD. Specific Aim 2: To provide within this infrastructure specialized resources to accelerate research on the role of metabolic and vascular factors in AD pathogenesis and on the development of novel interventions. Specific Aim 3: To optimize diversity in research and educational program participation to better understand and treat the causes underlying the increased risk of AD and dementia in minority communities. Specific Aim 4: To provide education regarding AD and related dementias to health professionals, researchers, afflicted adults and their families, and the community at large. 12 Well characterized participants available for referral for clinical studies: cognitively normal, high risk (parental history AND prediabetes), prodromal/early AD and AD Repository of clinical data and biospecimens available for pilot projects, preliminary data for grants, or for publications
13 Data/Specimen Repository Clinical data cognitive test scores demographic variables (i.e., age, BMI, education, gender) lab tests (i.e., glucose, insulin, lipids, BP, APOE genotype) >1,000 older adults: healthy controls, pre-ad and AD, prediabetes, Parkinson s disease Blood and CSF assays of Alzheimer s and other biomarkers Stored blood (plasma, serum, RBCs, PBMCs) and CSF Data/specimen/referral requests should be submitted to Center resource sharing committee, require 1 page description, contact Nora Shively (nshively@wakehealth.edu) Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center
