Stenzel, President 6045 N. 27 th Street Arlington, VA (phone) (fax) MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS Managerial Leadership Directed the Health Function in Occidental Chemical Corporation including: industrial hygiene; toxicology; product stewardship; product material data sheets (MSDSs); vendor MSDSs; health occupational and environmental risk assessments; and in cooperation with the medical department, supported the epidemiology activities. Managed and directed all aspects of the comprehensive industrial hygiene programs in Occidental Chemical Corporation, a multi-billion dollar organic and inorganic chemical company with over 40 domestic and international sites and in Hoechst Celanese Chemical Group, a multi-billion dollar petrochemical chemical company with 10 major production sites in the North America. These programs included hazard communication, exposure assessment strategies (inhalation and dermal), data analysis and evaluation, worker tracking, health risk assessment, exposure control, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and regulatory compliance. Developed and implemented: Management Systems to assure that the industrial hygiene program elements are integrated efficiently and effectively within and between sites; Professional Practice Standards to assure the protection of workers health and a consistency in programs; and Performance Measures to assess worker health and track status and progress of the programs and the effectiveness of engineering and administrative controls. Technical Leadership and Innovation Designed and implemented a state-of-the-art industrial hygiene program covering all aspects of industrial hygiene to control chemical and biological (via inhalation, dermal and ingestion), physical, and biomechanical hazards. Developed a practical, generic, state-of-the-art approach to exposure assessment of inhalation and dermal hazards which resulted in classifying worker exposures to over 50,000 chemical and physical agents under several thousand exposure scenarios in over 50 workplaces of two major chemical corporations.

2 Developed and implemented a health risk ranking methodology for risk assessments. The risk assessments are used to address company issues including: assuring worker protection; asset management; the conducting of economic feasibility studies; determination of appropriate exposure control limits; risk communications; limiting company liability; and the support of advocacy efforts. Member of an Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OPC) committee that established the OPC s worldwide Standard of Care principles to effectively protect human health and the environment at OPC facilities in all the countries OPC does business. Responsible for the management and conduct of the health monitoring, biostatistical and epidemiological functions within Hoechst Celanese Chemical Group. Participated in the conduct of three mortality studies. Conducted three morbidity studies on potential effects of occupational exposures to benzene, formaldehyde and noise and participated in the conduct of a cancer cluster study. Study completed in 1993 Designed and conducted both the exposure assessment and epidemiology components of a morbidity study on formaldehyde-exposed workers at the Hoechst Celanese Bishop Texas Plant. The study evaluated the relationship between duration and intensity of formaldehyde exposure and changes in Page 4 of 6

5 pulmonary function measures obtained from multiple medical surveillance exams. The rate of change in pulmonary function values was not accelerated in workers with formaldehyde exposure below the OSHA PEL. A very strong association was observed between smoking experience and changes in pulmonary function. - Study completed in 1985 Designed and conducted both the exposure assessment and epidemiology components of a morbidity study on benzene-exposed workers at the Hoechst Celanese Pampa Texas Plant. The studies evaluated the relationship between benzene exposure and changes in white and red blood count measures obtained from multiple medical surveillance exams. The white and red blood count measures were comparable in workers with benzene exposure below 1 ppm and in workers with no benzene exposure. Study completed in 1986 Designed and conducted a morbidity study on all workers for Hoechst Celanese Chemical Group (over 3000 workers). The study evaluated loss of hearing associated with various work groups, including operations, maintenance and administrative. The study found a strong correlation between exposure to high noise levels and hearing loss even though the company strongly enforced the use of hearing protection. The results of the study were used to focus the company s hearing conservation and noise reduction program.
