1 AzPA Southwestern Clinical Seminar JW Marriott 3800 Starr Pass Blvd., Tucson, AZ Time Program CE 8:00-9:30am Emerging Infectious Disease Outbreaks in Arizona, the U.S., and the World Lydia Plante, MSPH, Office of Infectious Disease Service, Arizona Department of Health Services Goals: The educational goal is to provide an overview of emerging infectious disease outbreaks of importance. These outbreaks will include Ebola, chikungunya, dengue, and a brief update on Enterovirus D68. It will include updates on the creation of vaccines, as well as the current epidemiology and clinical trends in the ongoing outbreaks. Learning objectives for Pharms: 1. Identify ongoing infectious disease outbreaks, and their locations. 2. Understand why these outbreaks matter to Arizona (despite having no locally acquired cases). 3. Identify which diseases (of the ones involved in ongoing outbreak) have vaccines, or where they are in terms of research and development. 4. Understand important epidemiological and clinical take away messages for the ongoing outbreaks of concern. 5. Understand ongoing infectious disease outbreaks, and their locations. 6. Describe why these outbreaks matter to Arizona (despite having no locally acquired cases). 7. Be familiar with which diseases (of the ones involved in ongoing outbreak) have vaccines, or where they are in terms of research and development. 8.
