A lot of pancreatitis sufferers maintain a diet and lifestyle that allows us to live each day without the pain, and frustration that comes from frequent pancreatitis episodes. One of the reasons why I wrote this report and started the list you have subscribed to was because I wanted to create a genuinely valuable resource to really help others take control of their pancreatitis so that they could start moving away from the fear and anxiety that comes from not knowing if another acute episode pancreatitis is around the corner. I want you to be able to live a more enjoyable life and hopefully give back to the community in return. For this reason I especially emphasize what be done about pancreatitis. We all know the saying: you are what you eat. It is your diet and other daily
4 habits that allow you, over time, to feel the best that you can and deserve to feel. In this special report, I am going to show you how many others have drastically reduced the pain and frequency of acute pancreatitis. The methods here are extremely simple but very powerful. This is especially true if you combine them to create a real power plan.
5 Why is Diet so Important for Sustainable Health with Pancreatitis? First of all let s take a look at why carefully understanding what you eat and what you is so important to the long term health of your pancreas. When you understand these points, you are much more likely to want to focus on gaining the benefits that come from them. You can learn what causes you acute pancreatitis The main advantage is that you can learn what you did before an episode of acute pancreatitis and know to what to avoid. You can let your family and friends know what those things are. This means that you will have support and avoid situations that pressure you into eating something that could land you in the hospital. You can learn what has no effect on your pancreatitis Again, this knowledge enables you to plan what you do and eat in a way that is safe to you and your pancreas. You can learn what from and acute pancreatitis There are a couple things that you can be doing that actually protect you from having another flare up. The more you understand and apply this, the less episodes you will have. In turn you will experience less pain, less damage, and reduce the long term effects that come from chronic pancreatitis. That is what we will focus on in this book.
6 The Secret About Vegetables Do you remember how your mom always told you to eat your vegetables? Well she was right but what she didn t tell you is that fresh vegetables not only agree with your pancreas but literally protect it from pancreatitis (non-gallstone related pancreatitis). A new breakthrough in understanding has just taken place. An 11 year study from the in Sweden found an incredible association between vegetable consumption and the occurrence of acute pancreatitis. The researchers in the study examined the dietary habits of over 80,000 Swedes and found that those who ate more than four serving of vegetables per day were 44% less likely to develop acute pancreatitis than those who ate less than one full serving a day. That is nearly half the risk! This study is important for both those who have never experienced pancreatitis as well as those who suffer from it every day. For those who have suffered from non-gallstone related acute pancreatitis, this is amazing news.
7 Interestly enough, fruits had absolutely no association with any protection or benefit toward pancreatitis. The researchers believe that the reason for the benefits from vegetables is due to antioxidants. While fruit also has antioxidants, they suspect that the fructose likely weakens the protective effect. You can start now to incorporate more fresh vegetables daily into your diet and give yourself significantly increased protection from acute pancreatitis episodes. The lead researcher of the study, Dr. Viktor Oskarsson, noted that the risk for acute pancreatitis decreased by 17% for every additional serving of vegetables consumed per day. Although the study found that five or more servings per day lead to a 44% decline in risk for acute pancreatitis, nutrition scientists recommend eating a minimum of five to nine servings a day to maximize protection from pancreatitis and other chronic diseases.
8 Are You Eating the Vegetables You Think You are Eating? Are you eating as much vegetables as you think you are? Most people that think so really aren t. You should be getting five to nine servings of vegetables per day. With pancreatitis it is important that your vegetables not be processed. Keep cooking and oils to a minimum as well. It s ok to cook your vegetables but don t overdo it. Don t do yourself the disservice of counting pizza sauce, catsup, or frozen microwaved spinach raviolis. While there may be some nutrients in these foods, they are not enough for pancreatitis. Focus your servings of vegetables on produce such as fresh (not canned): green beans fresh spinach squash tomatoes bell peppers carrots cucumbers kale peas TIP: Once you buy your vegetables as produce you can begin to incorporate them into your meals at home. Fresh vegetables are rich in many different nutrients including:
9 vitamins minerals fiber phytochemicals Phytochemicals are especially important because they act as antioxidants to protect your pancreas. Serving Size A serving size is equal to roughly half a cup for most vegetables. For leafy vegetables like spinach, it is equal to one full cup.
10 What About Supplements? Many people mistakenly think that they do not need to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day if they just take a vitamin supplement. There are some great supplements that can really help, but they are not a replacement for real food. That is because fruits and vegetables contain far more than the micronutrients identified by science and synthesized in vitamin pills. While the micronutrients contained in vitamins, such as vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin E are important to good health, so too are the hundreds of other elements that are contained in healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. These elements are not available in any pill, they must be ingested through a healthy, balanced diet that contains plenty of fruits and vegetables.
11 Vegetables and Processed Foods While processed foods may contain servings of vegetables, these vegetables have lost many of the nutrients that offer protection from pancreatitis. Not only do you lose the protection, but processed foods can aggravate your pancreas and result in acute pancreatitis episodes. Processed foods are everywhere and can be hard to avoid these days. It is astounding to think about how often processed foods are consumed without even realizing it. What compounds this problem, is that processed foods are often sold as healthy but awareness of the negative impacts of regular consumption is growing. Most people think of processed foods as just being potatoe chips, cookies and boxed snacks but that does not even come close to scratching the surface.
12 So what foods are considered processed? Most foods that have been altered to last a long time in a bag, box or can are fairly heavily processed. Also any baked goods made with bleached white flour. If you re not sure if food is very processed, just think of it this way. Does it last for months at room temperature without going bad? Does it contain frozen or dried meats? Crackers last a long time because they are very processed. A quality whole wheat loaf of bread, on the other hand, will start to mold after a few weeks. Some examples are: fast foods white bread white sugar all boxed crackers cookies frozen dinners most peanut butters deli meats cold cereal catsup canned soup juices many others
13 What to Do Right Now Perhaps you are eating five to nine servings and a good of vegetables a day already. If you are then great job! You are one of very few in the world. But most likely you have been counting processed sources, have been mixing fruit in your count, or are not getting a broad enough variety of rich or dark types of vegetables. Here are a few things that you can begin doing today that will positively impact your life and pancreatitis forever: Start now by buying your fresh vegetables today. Then incorporate them into the foods you are already eating. It s really not too hard to eat nine fresh servings a day. Add a couple cups of spinach and a sliced green pepper to your meal and you re already halfway there. Don t eat any more processed foods. Go through your house and identify everything that doesn t go bad at room temperature or contains lots of preservatives or bleached flour. Look closely at foods in a can, box, or packet. Either throw them out or make a strong mental note to stop eating them. Make sure you re subscribed to the free reports. If you aren t you will lose out on very valuable information that will help you relieve your pancreatitis.
14 Avoid fats (when you do eat meats, have boiled chicken or grilled salmon). Don t drink alcohol. Eat six smaller meals rather than three large ones. Eliminate smoking or exposure to any amount of secondhand smoke. Track how many servings of fresh vegetables you eat each day. If you have a smartphone there are many habit apps you can download and use. Or keep a simple journal. Do whatever works for you but just make sure you do it. Tell your family and friends about the positive impact that each of these solutions will make in your life and the pain it will spare you. If you have a spouse make sure they help you avoid foods that hurt you and encourage foods that help.
