3 WELCOME MESSAGE Welcome to The EyeClinic! Thank you for considering us for your eye care needs. Since returning to Singapore 6 years ago to set up The EyeClinic, my team and I have helped hundreds of people see better and improve their quality of life. We would like to help you too. In this brochure, I introduce a product called Implantable Contact Lens (ICL ). I strongly believe that when it comes to seeing clearly without glasses or contact lenses, this is the best vision correction option currently available. I understand that every patient is different, and I look forward to building a relationship with you and helping you find the option that suits you best. So, let s get started on helping you see better!
4 WHAT IS ICL? The Implantable Contact Lens (ICL ) is a small biocompatible lens inserted into the eye behind the iris through a tiny selfhealing incision. It is a revolutionary advancement in vision correction because it is reversible and causes no damage to your natural eye. The cornea, where light enters the eye, is kept pristine. ICL has a 20 year history with over 550,000 procedures performed around the world. It supercedes LASIK as the latest and most advanced refractive procedure in the market.
5 WHAT IS THE LENS MADE OUT OF? We use Visian ICL A Swiss lens made out of collamer, a material that consists of collagen which naturally occurs in your body. These lenses are biocompatible, which means it will naturally be in harmony with your eye. You will not be able to feel it, because the lenses are designed to work unobtrusively in your eyes indefinitely. Each lens is specially measured and customized to fit your individual eye. WHY CHOOSE ICL? REVERSIBILITY Because the ICL is completely removable, patients can have peace of mind that their vision can be further corrected in the future. This means that patients have the option of not wearing reading glasses in the future when presbyopia/lao hua develops. TREATS A WIDE RANGE OF PRESCRIPTIONS ICL is a suitable corrective option for a wide range of myopia. Many patients who are unsuitable for LASIK due to their high prescription or thin corneas are still suitable for ICL. You are not a suitable candidate for LASIK because your prescription is too high or your corneas are too thin. You don t want to make your dry eyes worse. You want to keep the option of not wearing reading glasses later on in life.
7 WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE? The procedure involves making a tiny incision at the base of your cornea before inserting and positioning the ICL lens within the eye. The procedure itself takes about 5 minutes for each eye and, because the surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia, you won t feel any pain. The small size of the incision also means that it will heal naturally and quickly. We expect that you would be able to see well enough to be watching TV or reading on your ipad on the same day.
8 ABOUT YOUR DOCTOR Dr. Cheryl Lee has performed the most number of ICL procedures in Southeast Asia. She is on the expert panel for ICL and is the only Asian female doctor on the panel who is able to train surgeons to perform ICL internationally. Dr Lee has over 16 years of local and international experience in the field of ophthalmology and has received a wide range of specialist training in England at Cheltenham, Cambridge and Bristol, in America at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, and in France at the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital in Paris. Dr. Lee was nominated into SG50 hall of fame for treatment of myopia. She no longer performs LASIK as she believes ICL to be the better option for her patients.
