1 APPROPRIATE TESTING FOR CHILDREN WITH UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION (URI) APPLICATIONS OBJECTIVE Purpose of Measure: ELIGIBLE POPULATION Which members are included? STANDARD OF CARE NCQA ACCEPTED CODES DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS What documentation should be submitted? REFERENCES HEDIS (Administrative) NCQA Accreditation To identify children who were diagnosed only with upper respiratory infection (URI) but were not dispensed an antibiotic prescription Children 3 months old as of July 1st of the year prior to the measurement year to 18 years old as of June 30 of the measurement year Members in Hospice care are excluded. URI as a stand-alone diagnosis should be treated symptomatically, not with an antibiotic. Note: This measure does take into consideration competing diagnoses that if also present in claims data under certain criteria would justify an antibiotic. Please see code table. Documentation on date of service should include a physical assessment and diagnosis of URI. Antibiotics should not be prescribed; the plan of care should include symptomatic treatment. For more information, please refer to Passport Health Plan s Upper Respiratory Infection in Children Clinical Practice Guideline. The criteria above are based on standards established under NCQA s HEDIS 2018 Technical Specifications.
