Filling Station Menu 8 Books Being Moved From UI Main Library Basement to Off-site Annex Lend a Hand to a Co-Worker Word Play Dr. Satheesh Elangovan Receives an Osseointegration Foundation Basic Science Research Grant Dr. Satheesh Elangovan in the Department of Periodontics has received a $29,000 Osseointegration Foundation Basic Science Research grant to explore the feasibility of developing a novel resorbable barrier membrane that will act as a delivery vehicle for biomolecules (including DNA), to enhance bone regeneration. Osseointegration Foundation is an affiliate of the Academy of Osseointegration. This study, which will have significant translational potential, will also explore methods to harness the bone regenerative potential of periosteal stem cells. The research team includes Dr. Aliasger Salem (Pharmacy and Dentistry), Dr. Liu Hong (Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research and Prosthodontics), Dr. Georgia Johnson (Periodontics) and Dr. Veerasathpurush Allareddy (Orthodontics). Dr. Michael Santucci, Family Dentistry Adjunct Faculty, Receives the E. Lloyd Du Brul Faculty Achievement Award Dr. Michael Santucci, an adjunct faculty in Family Dentistry, has received the E. Lloyd Du Brul Faculty Achievement Award from the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC). The award is given to a faculty member who reflects the late Dr. Du Brul s commitment to education excellence that strengthens the influence and renown of the UIC College of Dentistry. Dr. Santucci received his DDS at Northwestern University Dental School. He also completed a general practice residency at the Veterans Administration in Chicago. In addition to being in private practice for many years, Dr. Santucci was also a full-time faculty at the UIC College of Dentistry. He retired in December 2016.

7 Page 7 Vote for the Dental Care for Kids in Need Proposal for Gannett Foundation to Start a Free Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the IC FMC! The Iowa City Free Medical & Dental Clinic (FMC) staff and the volunteers have worked diligently with VIDEO CENTER Media (Iowa City) to put together a proposal for $100,000 from the Gannett Foundation to start a free pediatric dentistry clinic at the FMC. Dental Care for Kids in Need will be a partnership between the FMC and the Iowa City Healthy Kids School- Based Clinic (HKC). Gannett Foundation grant funding would allow FMC to hire a part-time dentist and a part-time dental assistant who will provide services for HKC children in need of dental care. Many children will be able to receive dental care and more fully utilize FMC s excellent dental facility. The FMC, established in 1971, provides outpatient health care for uninsured people in the community. In addition to six medical exam rooms, the clinic has two dental rooms, both with state-of-the-art operating units. Patients in the dental clinic receive exams, x-rays, treatment plans, fillings, extractions and hygiene. Through Dental Care for Kids in Need, children referred from HKC will be seen in a new Kids Dental Clinic at FMC. A $100,000 grant will provide project funding for two years; a $50,000 grant for one year. Through the project s demonstrated success, FMC and HKC will propose partnering with the UI College of Dentistry to continue these very important and much-needed services. This is a huge opportunity for the clinic as well as for Iowa City and the surrounding communities. Please take a minute to vote for the project. You can vote once a day for the next 30 days! Books Being Moved from Main Library Basement to Off-site Annex A few weeks ago, all faculty, staff, and students should have received a message about the move of 425,000 books from storage in Main Library s basement to the off-site Libraries Annex. The Hardin Library wants to note that, although these books have been stored at Main Library, these books include some that were originally housed at Hardin. These books are all older and have had very low usage; some still even have the old Dewey call numbers. There are fewer than 80 dental books affected by this move. In InfoHawk+, these books are labeled Available at Main Library Storage. In the past, if you needed one of these books, you would be able to request these books through the InfoHawk+ catalog, for delivery to your office, or for pick up at Hardin. Books labeled Available at Libraries Annex are not affected by this, and can still be requested. If you know you are going to need a book from Main Library basement storage during the next several months, please request it now, because beginning May 12, these books will not be available. As the move progresses, books that have been transferred will again be available when requested, but it is estimated that there will be some books unavailable for up to a year. Cow is cow but low is low, and shoe is never rhymed with foe. Think of hose and dose and lose and think of goose and yet of choose. Think of comb and tomb and bomb doll and roll and home and some. And since pay is rhymed with say, why not paid with said, I pray? Think of blood and food and good, but mould is not pronounced like could.
