1 California School of Health Sciences Course Name: National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) Part II Review Prerequisite Skills: Passing score in Part I. DDS, Doctor of Dental Surgery. DMD, Doctor of Dental Medicine. BDS, Bachelor of Dental surgery. Core Textbook(s): Dental Decks 2013/2014 First Aid part II, McGraw-Hill Medical; 3 editions. Meeting Place: Meeting Days & Times: Course Description: This course prepares students for the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE). Teaching and learning strategies are analyzed, synthesized, and developed using current dental updates designed to meet the test requirements. The NBDE is a test composed of 2 parts, for the purpose of assisting state boards in determining the qualifications of dentists who seek licensure to practice in the United States of America. Overall Course Objectives and Goals: Upon successful completion of the NBDE Part 2 review, students will be able: To recognize the need for taking the NBDE. To classify the components of the test. To formulate test taking strategies. To identify different forms of the NBDE. To integrate and develop answering skills. To recognize the NBDE as a positive, encouraging experience. To enhance their self esteem and be able to assess their knowledge at the end of each subject by using computer based tests, paper based quizzes and discussion groups. To assess their ability to understand important information from basic biomedical and dental sciences, and acquire the ability to apply such information in to a problem-solving contexts. To understand the U.S dental and ethical code of conduct. 1
2 To recognize the dental topics clearly. To diagnose the patient and create a treatment plan for the case. To interpret radiographs. To identify drugs interactions and be aware of them. An affiliate of Elsevier Inc Kaplan Medical NBDE Parts I & II, 2010 Kaplan, Inc. Course Policies: Attendance Policy: California School of Health Sciences (CSHS) expects students to attend all parts of a course for which they have registered. When students miss class or a part of class, they fall behind and it is not fair to other students who are present for the entire course. Minimum Standard: CSHS expects students to attend at least 90% of the course hours for which they have registered. Students are responsible for all content covered in class and must be physically present for 90% of the course hours in order to receive credit for the course. All SEVIS students on F1/M1 visa should maintain the required hours of minimum of 18 hours /week Cheating: Copying or giving help on assignments, quizzes, and tests is considered cheating. Having someone do your work is also considered cheating. Copying another person s words (plagiarism) is also cheating. Do not do any of the above, or you will receive an F on the assignment, quiz, test, or possibly for the course. See the College Policy on cheating for more information. Grading: The NBDE Part 2 review utilizes the following grading scale: <74% Fail. >74% Pass. 2
