1 I'm Squeaky Clean! Interactive Presentation Slide Notes Personal & Consumer Health / Grades K-1 Slide 1 This lesson introduces students to the concept of good personal hygiene. Discuss with students how keeping clean makes us feel good and keeps us healthy. Not all students may have easy access to ways to stay clean or wear clean clothes, so it s important to address this topic with sensitivity. Use the green arrow on the right/middle part of the screen to advance the slides in this presentation. Each time you advance the presentation, the next slide will be read aloud automatically. Tap on the text to hear it read again. Tap on the directions at the bottom of the slides to hear them read aloud.
2 Slide 2 This interactive slide reveals different parts of the body to keep clean for good hygiene. Students tap on each bubble to hear each body part that we should keep clean and healthy: hands, hair, teeth, body, feet
3 Slide 3 In this interactive drag and drop, students match a cleaning product to the part of the body that it cleans. Tapping on the yellow arrow reveals the correct responses: The toothbrush and toothpaste go to the mouth. The shampoo goes to the ponytail. The pink soap goes to the torso (body). The green soap goes to the hand on the left. The blue soap goes to the feet.
4 Slide 4 This interactive slide introduces the concept that we practice good hygiene at certain times of the day. Students tap on a picture and answer the question that they hear: When you wake up in the morning, what should you do to start the day nice and clean? (wash my face; brush my teeth) To clean up before eating lunch, what should you do? (wash my hands) When dinner s ready, what part of your body do you want to make sure is clean? (my hands) What should you do before going to bed? (brush my teeth)
5 Slide 5 This discussion slide introduces the concept that keeping your teeth clean is an important part of good hygiene. Ask: Do these teeth look dirty or clean? Do they look like weak teeth or strong teeth? Say: Let s see how the teeth stay clean and strong!
6 Slide 6 In this interactive slide, students tap on each picture to find out that we use our teeth for: chewing food! biting food! talking! Ask students to imagine biting or chewing an apple without teeth. Ask if it would be easy or hard. Have students say, The tooth fairy. Ask them if they used their teeth to make the sounds in the words.
7 Slide 7 This interactive slide introduces the concept of primary teeth. When students tap on each tooth, starting with the teeth on the top, they will count from one to twenty. Explain to students that when children reach five to seven years old, primary teeth start to come out, and permanent teeth will grow in their place. As children start to get bigger, their mouths get bigger and they need bigger teeth. Be sure that children know that whether they have or have not lost teeth at their age, it s normal! Kids lose primary teeth at different ages.
8 Slide 8 This interactive slide introduces the concept of taking care of the permanent teeth that must last our whole lives. Students tap on the bubbles to find that we brush and floss our teeth to take care of them. Ask students how many of them brush their teeth every day and why. To clean our teeth; to take care of teeth; so we won t get cavities.
9 Slide 9 This slide helps students set a health goal based on the information they learned in the presentation. To reinforce the goal, ask students to name three ways they can practice good hygiene. Possible answers: Wash my body Wash my feet Wash my hands Wash my hair Wear clean clothes Brush my teeth Floss my teeth
