3 Appendix II Profile of Research Scholar RANABIR PAL: Passed from Calcutta Medical College MBBS with Honours (1979) and DCH(1984); MD in Preventive and Social Medicine from All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, Calcutta (1986); MBA 2007; BLS, NALS, PALS & Sports Medicine (A-level) trained. [School leaving: Ramakrishna Mission (1973); Ranked 10 th West Bengal Joint Entrance examination (1973) for entry to MBBS course; Eligible in IIT National common entrance (1973) and studied B. Tech. (Metallurgy) in IIT Kharagpur before joining MBBS 1973]. CMCL-FAIMER Fellow 2009; Traveling Fellowship from Indian Academy of Pediatrics; Elmer Villanueva Member from International Epidemiological Association. An enthusiastic and adept researcher, astute academician, avid reader and a generous friend and mentor to many young researchers to promote a just cause conducting epidemiological studies. Honored as PhD thesis Reviewer, Guest Lecturer and Examiner/Evaluator of postgraduate (MD, MPH) and Doctoral PhD in Indian and Overseas Universities. He has considerable expertise in clinical research and publications in academic journals and books, and National and International Conferences; Presently Associate editor of Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health, Nepal Journal of Epidemiology, Indian Journal of Child Health; Editorial Board members of many International and National journals. Actively participates in conceptualization of research question, plan, and design, organization, data collection, analysis and interpretation in Institutional and funded projects. Consultant, facilitator and investigator of international and national level workshop and project with training on teaching Learning Methods in Health Professions Education and Bioethics, Life Skill Education to prevent HIV/AIDS. Contributors of books: A Handbook on Bio-Statistics, Spotters in Pediatrics, Tracking Progress Towards Sustainable Elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorder in Sikkim, User- Driven Healthcare and Narrative Medicine, HEALTH PROMOTION. Area of Research interest are Clinical Epidemiology and Community level intervention of injury. 4 Appendix III Profile of Research Supervisor Professor Sanjay Dahal completed MSc from IIT, Mumbai in 1988 and his PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in December He has got more than 7 years of post doctoral research experience: Sept 1995 to Jan 1999 in IISc Bangalore; February October 2000 in School of Chemistry, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel; Dec2000 April 2003 Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, USA. He joined the Department of Chemistry, SMIT as a faculty member in April 7, He is currently serving in SMIT as a Professor, Additional Registrar and Dean(SA). He is/has been a member of a number of boards/committees of the Institute.: Board of Studies, Chemistry; Admission Committee, ICNTAA, In November 2008 he was awarded the Certificate of Exemplary Contribution by Sikkim Manipal University. He has completed two research projects funded by DST, GoI and DRDO, GoI. In 2007 he established the Nanonics and Sensor Research Lab in SMIT. He has guided more than 20 MSc students research project. Five students are registered for PhD under his supervision.his current research interests are: Development of anti-cancer drugs, medical sensors,toxic metal sensors in organic and aqueous phase, colorimetric sensor for the detection of explosives and hazardous materials mesoporous/nano materials for application in drug purification, synthesis of molecular reactors and drug delivery, molecules with nonlinear optical properties and polyelectrolytes. He has more than twenty research papers in peer reviewed journals to his credit. He has attended more than 10 conferences both in India and abroad. 136
