19 Jeff s Story In March 2015 at age 45, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My treatment involved robotic surgery and after a stay in hospital I was sent home with a catheter. My surgeon suggested that I bring a pad with me for the follow up session to remove the catheter. Following his recommendation I bought a well-known pull-up from the supermarket. Upon removal of the catheter I found myself immediately incontinent, the pad didn t hold at all and I was soaked through including my pants. The surgeon had no standby stock and all he could give me was a bluey to sit on in the car. My journey home was around 45 minutes and the whole time I was totally soaked and leaking more. We had been warned to expect incontinence and dribbling, I never thought it would be like this. I felt so let down by my surgeon for not being prepared. The pull-ups I bought initially always felt uncomfortable, often with a wet feeling and frequently having to change them, which was frustrating as I had to fully undress every time. One day I went to watch my son play a game of football but I needed to change in the public toilets which was embarrassing and difficult. I explained my troubles to a friend who is a nurse, I described how I hated the wet feeling and had resorted to using tissues constantly to dab dry. Because of the incontinence I was too embarrassed to go back to work... but then I started going for a few hours a day and I felt great! I feel like this is life changing for me. I still have to be careful when I go out drinking with my mates. A few beers in can make me leak, but I know that I can rely on MoliCare pads. If there is something I could change, I would like the surgeons to know about HARTMANN pads and for them to be prepared with a proper list of medical suppliers, instead of sending me to a supermarket.
