1 Characteristics of Clients Receiving Texas COSIG Services Data through May 2007 Characteristics at Admission to COSIG Services The following graphs display client characteristics of participants in the COSIG program through July As a part of qualification for entry into COSIG, clinicians in the substance abuse treatment programs administer an assessment battery to obtain diagnostic impressions to determine the presence of co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. The battery includes the M.I.N.I structured diagnostic interview, the Brief Inventory (BSI) for a client report of symptom severity, the Brief Derogatis Psychiatric Rating Scale (BDPRS) for a clinician rating of symptom severity, and the Substance Abuse Scale (SATS) for a clinician rating of stage of treatment engagement. Clients who qualify for the COSIG program receive ancillary services to support their recovery process in addition to substance abuse treatment. Ancillary service categories include child care, housing support, transportation, food assistance, education support, employment assistance, clothing, medical care, prescriptions, and peer mentoring. In addition, clients are asked to report the types of ancillary services they received during the past month. The follow graphs present client characteristics on psychiatric severity and treatment engagement at admission and after one month in COSIG and display the types of ancillary services provided during that month.
