White, Editors OMS Faculty and Staff Attend Annual AAOMS Meeting; Dr. Richard Burton Honored as Outgoing ABOMS President 1-2 CoD AAWD Members Hold Pumpkin Carving Night 1-2 Submissions Info Several OMS Faculty and Staff Attend Annual AAOMS Meeting; Dr. Richard Burton Honored as Outgoing ABOMS President Several Department of Oral & Maxillofacial faculty and staff attended the 99th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. The meeting was held October 9-14, 2017, in San Francisco, Calif. Dr. Richard Burton (below) was honored as outgoing president of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He was presented the award by Dr. Mark D. Zajkowski, current ABOMS president. Dr. Kirk Fridrich, chair of the OMS Department, is a former president of ABOMS. Local Chapter of AAWD Holds Pumpkin Carving Night Fifteen dental students, who are members of the local chapter of the American Association of Woman Dentists (AAWD), recently held a Pumpkin Carving Night at Aspire at West Campus s Community Center. Their advisor, Dr. Emily Lanzel, Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology & Medicine, also attended with her two children, Gus and Gigi. Amanda Phan (D3), who is the local vice president of AAWD, commented, It was so much fun. We had representation from each dental school class! However, as with all highly skilled people, we can never replace them; we only hope to find a substitute. During the interim period between Ms. White s retirement and the start date of her successor, both Chris White and Jenni Peak (Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research) will be producing the DSB Weekly.
