Speaker: Michael Schneider, DC, PhD Course Title: Muscle Pain and Dysfunction Date/Time: Saturday, April 22, am 12 pm CEUs: 4 Course Description: Hour 1: A review of muscle pain mechanisms, including histopathology and neurology of myofascial referred pain. Presentation of the four major types of

2 muscle pain/dysfunction, with emphasis on differentiating between focal and global types of muscle dysfunction. Hour 2: The different types of focal muscle dysfunction, with a detailed explanation of the most current theories about the trigger point phenomenon. A review of the literature regarding tendinopathies and why the term tendon- itis is being abandoned in the medical literature. Which chiropractic techniques and treatment methods are best suited for these focal muscle lesions. Hour 3: The two basic types of global muscle dysfunction; adaptive shortening and stretch weakness (tightness and weakness). Why global muscle dysfunction is typically a secondary reflex response from underlying facet joint or disc disorders, and how the nervous system participates in creating muscle imbalances. Hour 4: How chiropractors can use manual myofascial release techniques to treat localized painful muscle lesions and also use rehabilitative exercise techniques such as stretching and strengthening to correct global muscle imbalances. Developing a comprehensive method for proper diagnosis and treatment of FMS (false muscle pain) from true muscle pain and dysfunction. Dr. Michael J. Schneider s seminars are relevant and timely, because they integrate chiropractic and sports medicine, physical therapy, and rehabilitative medicine into a unified approach to the evaluation of myofascial and muscular dysfunction. His outgoing presentation style and ability to dissect a lot of information into easy- to- understand, bite- size pieces will ensure your doctors a unique insider perspective into cross training between chiropractic and rehabilitation, as this relates to myofascial pain and fibromyalgia syndrome. Dr. Schneider has extensive experience and expertise on chiropractic, sports medicine, physical therapy, and rehabilitation and has authored numerous articles, textbook chapters and other publications on these subjects. His primary areas of interest are fibromyalgia syndrome, myofascial pain, and muscle dysfunction. In private practice since 1984, Dr. Schneider has received his Ph.D. in rehabilitative science at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the former vice president of the ACA Council on Technique and is a postgraduate faculty member of New York, Texas, National, and University of Bridgeport Chiropractic Colleges. Speaker: Sean Hubbard, DC, DACNB Course Title: Sports Concussion and Return to Play Date/Time: Saturday, April 22, pm 5 pm CEUs: 4 You can hardly turn on the television or open your news feed without seeing a story about concussion and the possible long- term effects of multiple concussions. The CDC estimates that million concussions occur annually. There is a high likelihood you are seeing these patients in your office. This seminar focuses on recognizing and managing sports related concussion and why it is important to remove players from the field, and how to manage their return to play. Course Objectives: Dr. Sean Hubbard is a board certified chiropractic neurologist. More important than that to his patients he is a puzzle solver. His practice at Hubbard Chiropractic and Balance Center, LLC is designed to meet

3 the needs of those who suffer with balance disorders, post concussion syndrome, and other problems related to the human nervous system. He has achieved diplomate status with the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and is certified by Concussion Health in diagnosing and treating concussion and post concussion syndrome. Hour 2: Understanding how systematic reviews and meta- analyses are conducted. The anatomy of good clinical practice guidelines and how they are created. Navigating the use of PubMed and other online research resources. Hour 3: Examples of good and poor rehabilitation literature. How to critically appraise articles and apply a quick sniff test for their scientific validity and clinical relevance. Using PubMed on a daily basis within the context of a busy chiropractic practice. Hour 4: The role of EBP in Health Care Reform and the future role of chiropractic. The Triple Aim and the Healthcare Value Equation. Preparing for the transition from volume to value- based health care. Inter- professional health care teams and integration of chiropractic services into the mainstream of rehabilitation services. Dr.
