The current standard of treatment for HIV/AIDS is the highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). This therapy typically consists of a triple cocktail of a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), a non nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) and a protease inhibitor (PI). Although these cocktails have been successful in greatly reducing mortality, viral loads and restoring immune function, they do not represent a cure, 5

It is estimated that an average patient would require anywhere from years to purge the latent memory T lymphocyte reservoir The latent T cell memory reservoir are T cells in the body capable of living for a long time. Hence, HIV that is not replicating, or latent, can exist for years undetected. 6

HIV infects million people worldwide (UNAIDS Report, 2005). It is predicted that in the absence of drastically expanded prevention and treatment efforts, at least 68 million people will die from AIDS between the years 2000 and In the United States of America (USA), it is estimated that over 900,000 people are infected with HIV (UNAIDS Report, 2003). It is estimated that HIV/AIDS causes approximately 3 million deaths annually worldwide, and 15,000 annually in the USA (UNAIDS Report, 2003). 7

Perhaps more urgent however, there are concerns regarding adverse effects associated with long term usage of HAART. Specifically, a variety of metabolic disorders including HIVassociated lipodystrophy 2, central adiposity 3, dyslipidaemia 4, hyperlipidaemia 5, hyperglycemia 6 and insulin resistance 7 have been reported as resulting from HAART (Vigouroux et al., 1999; Behrens et al., 2000; Powderly, 2002). 8

9

is a medical condition characterized by abnormal or degenerative conditions of the body's adipose tissue. 10

Central Adiposity can lead to Cardiovascular disease, Diabetes, sleep apnea and osteoarthritis 11

Mostly showing up as hyperlipidemia which can lead to cardiovascular disease, or acute pancreatitis 12

These reactions, which range between 1% and 30% of patients for each drug in a treatment regimen of three drugs, combined with complex and cumbersome dosing regimes, can have an adverse impact on patient compliance. 13

Considering the percentage of adverse events when taking three drugs together, it is evident that management of HIV infection with HAART is difficult for a large proportion of patients. 14

The law of similars states that a substance that causes symptoms similar to those of the disease, can also cure the disease. The originator of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann had his original epiphany with quinine and malaria. After taking a small dose of quinine, he began to have intermittent fever like symptoms, similar to Malaria. So he hypothesized that might be the reason quinine worked with malaria, because it caused similar symptoms a theory also postulated by Hippocrates much earlier. The basic assumption with homeopathy as well as many other holistic therapies is that the body mind has the resources necessary overcome many diseases. Homeopathy is applying the direction or acts as a catalyst to stimulate the system to overcome the problem. As long as we are relying on exogenous influences such as drugs to shore up or do the work the immune system should be doing, there will always be side effects, always be an immune system that is not up to it s full potential. In essence, conventional medicine is making the assumption that the body mind of the AIDS patient is incapable of mounting a defense so therapy is aimed at doing the defense work. But the truth is, we don t really know what the body mind is capable of unless we try therapies that are oriented towards strengthening the system such as homeopathy. 15

Samuel Hahnemann and his homeopathic colleagues had great success treating various epidemics that broke out in Europe. In addition, there are multiple records in town newspapers, homeopathic records and community registers all over the world from the early 1800 s through to the early 1900 s. Some are small isolated entries, while there are also larger records at various hospitals and health centers around the world. 16

There are thousands of records in town newspapers, homeopathic records and community registers all over the world from the early 1800 s through to the early 1900 s. Some are small isolated entries while some are records from hospitals, health centers and entire districts. 17

Here are some general statistics for a variety of infectious Diseases: 19

There was controversy when Dr. Bakody published his results. Accusations were made by his colleagues stating he was falsifying records. However he was exonerated when he brought records of the names and records for each of his records which was independently verified by the city health examiners. 20

You can also find multiple angry and dismissive entries in various town registers and news papers by allopathic physicians of the day. But the records of the claims by homeopaths have been verified. In several cases, given the superior results, communities lobbied to have homeopathic treatment be the exclusive treatment for the various diseases. In many cases, the homeopathic physicians had to turn away patients as they were overwhelmed with patients once they heard of the results. 21

22

The tiny number 6 is the only known survivors of Rabies as listed by the CDC. All the cases had serious sequelae and never fully recovered. Searching through homeopathic literature, Dr. Andre Saine found 12 cases that were fully recovered using homeopathic treatment alone fully recovered with no long term side effects. From Wikipedia: Rabies (Latin: rabies, "madness, rage, fury") is a viral zoonotic disease that causes acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in mammals. In non vaccinated humans, rabies is almost invariably fatal after neurological symptoms have developed, but prompt post exposure vaccination may prevent the virus from progressing. There are only six known cases of a person surviving symptomatic rabies, and only one known case of survival in which the patient received no rabies specific treatment either before or after illness onset. [1] 23

Dr. Saine has been fastidiously compiling all the statistics and records from records all over the world and in multiple languages. So far he s found hundred of records to show how homeopathy was capable of treating and resolving these conditions with excellent success. He s reportedly working on publishing a book with references. 24

Of course, those days are gone. Many of those diseases don t exist in our modern world except in the third world. The opportunity to treat AIDS patients in current society by homeopathic treatment is minimal. Currently there is minimal data to support the idea that homeopathy can help in the treatment of AIDS. One Study: The study suggests a possible role of homeopathic treatment in HIV infection in symptomatic phase, as evidenced by a statisticallysignificant significant elevation of base line immune status in persistent generalised lymphadenopathy.. The only we will be able to know if homeopathy is effective with AIDS is if we treat enough patients to get the data. 25

Back in the 1900 s despite the success that homeopathy had with so many serious diseases, it was largely ignored and forgotten. Only if we reverse that trend of ignoring what seems impossible, will we discover new ways to help AIDS patients. If we don t begin to work outside the box, we ll mostly end up with the same results controlling the immune system with drugs, rather than encouraging the body and mind to begin the process of self healing. Of course, it is possible that homeopathy can t help with AIDS enough to merit it s use, but we won t know unless we try. Certainly it s past history suggests thatitmaybe useful. 26

I traveled to Kenya in 2000 to help to open an AIDS clinic in a slum of Nairobi called kariobungi. I treated very severe cases, patients that had no funds and were severly ill patients who would be at the ER in industrialized countries. I saw immediate and profound improvements with patients while there. There are a handful of cases and my experiences of that clinic listed on my website. 27

If enough patients can be treated with homeopathy and we can publish the outcomes, we can begin to have the data to find out if Homeopathy can make a difference with these patients. I would welcome any referrals and collaboration with regards to treatment and collecting good cases. 28
