2 Report of the First Regional HIV Clinicians Network Meeting March 2007 Rattanak Hotel, Battambang Province 1. Objectives: The meeting had the following objectives: 1. To give participants an opportunity to share experiences, tactics and responses to HIV infection in adults including OI and ART clinical care, adherence, psychological support, clinic operation, linkages and referrals. 2. To inform Update National Adult ART Guideline 3. To Establish OIs and ART clinicians network by regions 2.. Meeting Venue, Duration and Participants: The meeting was held at the Rattanak hotel in Battambang province, from March The following 52 participants attended the meeting: 41 HIV physicians from 12 referral Hospital and 1 Health Center in 5 provinces (BTB RH, Moung Rusey RH, Thamor Kul RH, Regional 5 Military Hospital, Pursat RH, Kampong Chhanang RH, Orchrov RH, Mokulborey RH, Sisophone HC, Sonikum RH, Siem Reap RH and Kralanh RH. 11 from NCHADS, local facilitator and national core mentors 3. Financial Support and Sponsors The total budget spent on the coordination meeting was USD; supported by TREAT Asia 4. Proceedings of the Meeting: Day 1 Morning: Opening Ceremony: Welcome speech by Dr. Kuy Sok, Deputy of BTB PHD Opening speech by Dr. Meas Vuthy, Deputy Director of NCHADS Objective of Workshop by Dr. Sous Prem Prey Update of CoC achievements by 2006 by Dr. Kaoeun Chetra

3 Day 1 Afternoon: Update of National Adult ARV Guidelines: When to start How ARV to Start How to start ART in patients with TB How to start ART in pregnant women Laboratory monitoring (Before ART and On ART) How to change in cases toxicity By Dr. Chel Sarim and Dr.Sous Prem Prey Day 2 : 5 presentations were presented: 1. Case Study of Pursat OIs and ART Team 2. Case Study from Kampong Chhanang RH 3..Case Study from Mokul Borey RH 4. Case Study from Moung Russey RH 5. Case Study from Siem Reap RH Day 3: 3 presentations were presented: 1. Case Study from Sonikum RH 2. Case Study from Sisophon HC 3. Case Study from BTB RH Evaluation of the meeting on strengths points, Weakness and Suggestions 5. Result of the evaluation: Strengths points: Good learning process (build up capacity, follow up after training) Good agenda, place the meeting, handout, LCD Good facilitate (brain storming) Good preparation of cases study Good sharing experiences (National, Provinces, Districts) Good participation (Discussion, Answer) Strong Technical support from Core mentors. Provided update information on HIV treatment

4 Weakness: Presentations writing in French or English First time for National Level organizing such meeting. Lack of participate of some physicians Didn't provided corrected handout Short time for presentation Facilitators talk more than presenters Refreshment is not enough Suggestions: Should invite TB program and NIPH lab to join More National core mentors to facilitate. Fix date for the next meeting Should meet regularly every 6 month Should be have a National network meeting every year Distribute handout before presentation Avoid of stock out of Fluconazol (100 mg, 200mg) Upgrade Laboratory to support OIs and ART treatment. OIs and ART team from the same site should sit together for defense your case study Should be invite all OIs and ART team to participate Recommendation: OIs and ART management must be based on Update national ART Guideline, TB Guideline and Update PMTCT Guideline. Be careful (in case how to change in toxicity, second line): team discussion or seek opinion. Keep in touch with Core mentors, OIs and ART teams in their own provinces (if more then one site) and other provinces, or colleagues 6. Closing remarks: Dr. Kuy Sok, Deputy Director of BTB PHD thanked for NCHADS for organized this meeting. Because it is good opportunity for all HIV physicians from BMC, BTB,PST, KCN, SRP and Regional Military 5 for participation and shearing experiences.

5 Dr. Mean Chhi Vun, Director of NCHADS, thanked all participants, for their hard work, active participation and discussion during the whole Regional HIV Clinicians Network Meeting. He emphasised that is good opportunity for sharing experiences on HIV/AIDS care and treatment especially on OIs and ART management. He noted that this meeting also contribution for improving the quality of OIs and ART services and capacity building for HIV physicians. After answering all technical, financial and management issues raised by the participants, he wished all partners and all participants for good luck and safe trip back home. Dated: 16 March 2007
