1 Memo No: Date: 25-Nov Re: NEW Serology and Virology Testing In Common Laboratories has been working hard to expand our test menu. We are pleased to announce the availability of Serology/Virology Testing performed at Laboratory Reference Centre (LRC) Hamilton Regional Lab Medicine Program. This testing is available from Monday to Thursday only. NEW TESTS: for more details please refer to the specific test information at Serology Acute Hepatitis Note: This is a group test that includes; Hepatitis A Antibody (IgM) and Hepatitis B surface Antigen. Positive results indicate an acute Hepatitis A infection. Reflex testing is done for Hepatitis B Core IgM Antibody if HBsAg is reactive. Method: Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay TAT: 2 Days Fee: $20.08 Serology Chronic Hepatitis Note: This is a group test that includes; Hepatitis B surface Antigen screen and Hepatitis C Antibody screen test. If positive, confirmed at TPHL. Method: Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay TAT: 2 Days Fee: $20.08 Hepatitis A Antibody (IgG) Immunity Note: This test is used to indicate if a patient is considered immune or not immune to the Hepatitis A virus. Method: Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay TAT: 2 Days Fee: $8.25 Hepatitis A Antibody (IgM) Diagnosis Note: This test is used to indicate if there is evidence of acute or recent Hepatitis A infection. Hepatitis B Core Ab (Total IgG & IgM) Note: This test is used to detect past or present IgG or IgM antibodies to Hepatitis B Core. Hepatitis B Core IgM Antibody Diagnosis Note: This test is used to indicate if there is evidence of acute or recent Hepatitis B infection. Hepatitis B Surface Ab (IgG) Immunity Note: This test is used to indicate if a patient is considered immune or susceptible to the hepatitis B virus. Page 1 of 4

2 Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (Qualitative) Note: This test is performed to detect if a patient is reactive or non-reactive for the Hepatitis B surface antigen. Hepatitis B Core Ab reflexed if HBsAg is a new positive result, HBsAg confirmatory reflexed if reactive on repeat testing and is a new positive. Hepatitis B Surface Ag (Confirmatory) (not orderable reflex test) Note: This test is performed to confirm or not confirm a reactive result for Hepatitis B surface antigen. Hepatitis C Antibody Note: This test is used to detect past or current infection and possible infectious status of Hepatitis C... Serology Cytomegalovirus Antibody (IgM)- Diagnosis Note: This test is used to indicate a primary or a reactivated Cytomegalovirus infection. Method: Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay TAT: 2 Days Fee: $15.40 Serology Cytomegalovirus Antibody (IgG) - Immunity Note: This test is used to indicate if a patient is susceptible or considered immune to the Cytomegalovirus. Cytomegalovirus Non Blood Note: This test is used to detect the CMV in non-blood samples (BAL, Body Fluid, Ocular Fluid, spinal fluid, tissue and urine). It is reported as positive (detected) or negative (not detected). Method: Altona RealStar CMV Rotorgene PCR and/or culture TAT: 3 Days Fee: $48.13 Cytomegalovirus PCR: Blood Note: This test is used to detect the CMV in blood. It is reported as positive (detected) or negative (not detected). This test is for Transplant patients only. Method: Altona RealStar CMV Rotorgene PCR TAT: 2 Days Fee: $ Herpes Virus PCR, Spinal Fluid Note: This test is used to detect the Herpes virus. If the sample is negative for the Herpes virus it will then be tested for the Enterovirus. If the sample is negative for HSV PCR and Enterovirus and is a child less than 5 years old, Parechovirus testing will be reflexed. CMV can be performed on request.
