3 Clinical Aromatherapy The use of essential oils by a specially trained and licensed health care provider to assist with encouraging healing, promoting relaxation and fighting infection and chronic illness Herbalists plants with synergy and as adaptogenic properties Chemists chemistry determines therapeutic properties Safety Know what you are buying Skin testing before delivery Training/ experience of provider More is not better Case Study Hypothesis: Patients receiving aromatherapy at night will have decreased anxiety and/or improvement in sleep quality/insomnia Patients in a private room will receive either lavender angustifolia or Roman Chamomile via inhalation through a diffuser overnight. The treatment with be delivered nightly x 2 weeks. There will be given a GAD 7 survey prior and after the treatment as well as questions regarding quality of sleep. Vital signs will be taken in the evening and the following morning. All patients will be recruited and will sign consent forms. Exclusion criteria includes use of anxiolytic agent or allergy to the essential oil. 3
